My daughter has a G310R (she's not tall enough yet for a GS!) and has a major throttle issue, currently effectively broken down at her sisters!

The bike was behaving fine, last run 3 hours ago, but now on start up it idles around 3,000 rpm and doesn't settle, applying more throttle does very little and won't take it over 4,000 rpm. Anyone experienced anything similar on a 310 GS or R?

She's also now told me there's a an engine style light on on the binnacle plus it had a good soaking on a journey a couple of days ago although I'm not sure whether it's related. Currently unrideable and might need a call to Motorrad, nearest is Oxford 45 minutes away so not ideal.

Sorry can't really help but they are ride by wire throttle so it could be water in the throttle sensor.

I'd thought as much so have gone through as many resets as I can think of, disconnected the battery, ignition on the n full throttle a few times etc but no improvement.

Is the throttle pot in the grip?

If it’s a later model bike it’s a fly by wire throttle and it’s built into the throttle grip assembly. Plugging it into a GS-911 if you have access to one would let you read the fault code and confirm the fault , it would also allow an adaptions reset

Cheers John, yes it's a later model with the updates so fly by wire. I'm nowhere near the bike so I've become DRA (dad remote assist) and currently suggesting she tries to get a hairdryer on it to see if it helps.

This morning it's idling at 2,000 but only reaching 3,500 on full throttle, very much sounds like a damp issue corrupting the TPS signal.

Spray some GT85/WD40 to see if that disperses any water (if it is a water ingress issue) . Unfortunately without access to a GS-911 there’s not much more you can do

And the result was ... despite repeated attempts to dry it out it still wouldn't run right so it's been into Motorrad and £170 later has a new throttle pot, all now fine again. The dealer said they see this problem quite often on big GS's but it was the first on a G310, probably not too many 310s out there doing major wet weather miles though. Having said that I do tend to take dealer comments on faults with a pinch of salt anyway ....

Thanks for everyone's help, as usual you're a font of all knowledge!

Hi
Did you get the old one back, if so you could dismantle it and see if there is a way of waterproofing it, Silicone electrical grease?
