On the way through NE France, had just been slightly off-road on the way back to Mussy sur Seine from Dijon. Returned to the hotel, shower, shave etc, slap up meal and some of the good stuff.
Next morning found a deer tick on the floor. I didn’t think much about it, they are quite small (3-4mm), I would not have seen it except the shower room was spotless. Picture URL: http://www.gate2biotech.com/images/clanky_clanky/deer-tick_537.jpg
Two weeks later the side of my head started tingling and stinging, a few days later my eye started to swell until it was almost closed, the side of my face, looked as though I had been in a heavyweight fight. Off to the Docs for industrial strength antibiotics and antihistamines, a week off work. Altogether unpleasant. I found out later that the allergic reaction can be up to month after the bite. I have a pretty strong constitution and taken bee/wasp stings, mosquitos bites without too much problem.
So take care, they are out there and not pleasant. Just a quick check of clothes and body is all it takes.
