Hi all

Complete BM virgin and recently bought an adeventure which I'm quite happy with and should be more so when the cat is set free.

I do have a couple of quires thou that you may be able to help with. there is a loud ticking noise from the engine when throttaling off, is this anything to worry about, it sounds like tappits!!

Also when I pull away it sounds like an automatic centre stand is coming up - is this the ABS kicking in

Thanks for any help

Yup its teh Tappets and Yup its the ABS

Nothing to worry about

How old is it and when was it last serviced?

Regards

G..

Oh and welcome to the loony bin!!!

:-)

Thanks for that,

the bikes only got 4300 miles so not really run in yet so I'm told

Mine makes a noise when pulling off after starting, does not do it after the first time but will make the noise after the engine has been stopped and restarted.

The noise sounds like its coming from the top of the engine and is a kind of rattle lasting about 1 or 2 seconds.

Its only done 7500 miles and somehow does not sound like a serious noise.

Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers

I can only repeat what I was told when I bought my first boxer.

If it makes no noise, then either:

1. you have stalled.

2. it is about to break down in a major way.

3. it is a dream. Enjoy it till you wake up.

Otherwise, don't worry so long as it's getting a regular service.

I think this was good advice.

Ticking

Tickety tick... change gear...Tickety tick...change gear...Tickety tick...change gear...Tickety tick...change gear...Tickety tick...

Welcome to the sound of my morning GS ride to work!

Learn to love it, it's a feature :)

Cheers,

Ben

The abs makes a loud double click as you pass 4mph.

As to the rest of the noises, I had the same problem until I got better ear plugs....

Check the oil level... And then check again..
Make sure you can clearly see it in the sightglass.
On My first GS it would tick noticably when I'd brake and then dissappear a few seconds later when idiling. The oil was low, so I added a pint or two and this did the job.
Seems that the timing chain was probably tapping and the oil dampened the noise.. Noise went straight away.

:D :D :D :D :D Tee hee. Oh so true.

As a new GS rider I was trying to come up with a way of describing the noise my bike makes when I first pull away.

The use of 'when I pull away it sounds like an automatic centre stand is coming up' hits the button and the reassuring(?) comments are, well, re-assuring.

Just moved up from a Pegaso single - never had the chance to notice any noises above the sound of the engine on that.

Just being its tick tap slap happy self. Wear ear plugs and it goes away.;)
