Looking for a way out
After 10 years of the 1150, I'm thinking a change would be nice.
I rather fancy the idea of the lovely tripple...
Any thoughts about why I should / should not?

Yep try tiger 800, 1050 and Explorer.
Triumph, BMW, and most European manufacturers are really producing top stuff now so worlds your oyster

Oh for the hell of it test ride a street triple they're a real hoot

Went from a gs1200 to a 1050 tiger lovely engine shame about the rest of it
5 months later back on a gs.

Did a test ride this morning. That motor is nice....
After 10 years on the GS is hard to make the break.
He offered to price the GS for p/x, despite my warnings. He came back saying "perhaps you would do better selling privately, I can see you have had a lt of use out of it..."
I am undediced...
I guess I should look at these 1200 GS things too

In my experience the newer Triumphs can have an iffy build qualty with an indifferent back up from their dealer network

You rode it through the winter? That'll invalidate your warranty :augie

If you think the GS has a crap screen.. Wait til you try a Tiger 1050 ;)

And its chain drive...

I had a 1050 Tiger for a few years. It was reliable. quicker and better on juice than the GS1150, it handled well ( the suspnsion needs a bit of tweeking ) and I think it was bit more comfortable than the GS. It wasn't too difficult to maintain either, but not as easy as the GS.
I ran it alongside the GS for a while, then traded the GS in for a 2009 model Stelvio, after that the Tiger was hardly used. After a further 2 years I sold the tiger and traded in the '09 Stelvio for a new Stelvio NTX which IMHO is a fantastic bike.

Not my experience. I have had two, still own one. You may have more experience than me but I can only speak as I find. Love the 1050 to bits. Engine is lively and fun, handling is sensitive to small changes but when dialled in is excellent. Feels like a comfortable sports bike. OEM tyres like most are not as good as after market. Reliability and build is excellent. Not great on poor road surfaces or off road, but very quick on fast sweepers. Headlights and suspension generally considered to be the week areas, but not that bad.

Fuel economy is better than the 800. Brakes excellent. Seat comfortable. One great bike.

Can't compare to the GS as I have only had it a week, but I am keeping the 1050.

Just me... owned around 10 GS's , including 3 1200's...

Also had an Explorer, and a Tiger 1050.

Now on a GTR1400

If I wanted another bike in the garage out of the ones above.. it would be a GS ;)

I test rode a Tiger 1050 and an R1200GS and bought the GS.

The engine was nice on the Tiger, but I always ride two-up nowadays and the suspension was too soft, the pillion seat high and exposed, and the heat shield on the exhaust dug into Trudi's ankle.

The GS was much better engineered, better handling and more comfortable in comparison.

Test rode the 1050 tiger, tiger 1200 explorer, R1200gs and R1200GSA
bought the R1200gsa but liked the 1050 tiger and did not like the explorer at all.

Never owned a 1050 but my best mate has one, yes the head lights aren't brilliant and he has had the suspension done but overall it is a good bike, I had a 57 plate GS (now a 13 GS LC TE). The fuel consumption was about the same on a long run between his 1050 and my old GS.

It seems comfy enough and the ride is good, he's faster through the bends than me. But it is more road biased that the GS. You'd never take one off road!

Triumph have built it to a price point that's obvious but in my view it is excellent value for money.

The only other down side is the std boxes, both very small and double skinned so actually smaller than they look inside! He's done a cleaver mod which is to get a low level can, then he made a rail for the exhaust side so can use a full box from a sprint, on that side. He sells the rails..

He's done 22k+ miles and so far no issues.

The new tiger sport solves some of the light and suspension issues so if you were looking at new wait for that, if you were looking 2nd hand, you shouldn't have trouble finding one

Check out tiger1050.com too!

Tiger

Drove a mate's 1050 recently, and was very pleased to be back on my 1200GSA! Check out a 1200, GSA or not :thumb

Theres a reason BMW GS's are more expensive, and you will see when you ride one.

Its just a case of whether the engine attracts you enough to forget about the other stuff.

EDIT: But also, SO PRETTY!! :love
