I'd love to use a Cub but so expensive for a good one like that these days.

I'd love one of those but even more I'd love just 1/10th of the riders skill.

I built a '59 Cub with 16" wheels from boxes of bits for a girlfriend in the '70's. Low compression piston so she could start it but it was still torquey enough to carry two of us at an indicated 60mph. Triumph Herald cylinder liner was used to convert a knackered barrel back to original bore.

Many years ago I saw a trials prepped Cub in my local bike shop. It looked stunning with polished alloy everywhere. What must it be worth now?

Those old Cubs were fragile and it's only with later technology that they showed their mettle ..... or that of the rider

The guy who built it rides in the Aqueduct club trials quite regularly, not seen him on that though.

It was always the bottom ends that fell out of the Cubs when I was a youth. Sammy Miller used to do a complete trials Cub chassis for just over a grand. Don't suppose they're that cheap now though.

That takes me back , I bought and passed my test on one of these back in 1973. Changed the big end pin and bearing twice during the time I had it.
Could 'nt afford one now.........

just goes to show what less than 10hp in the right hands can do.

when I was starting out in bikes (75) the cub was an unrelaible slug, of course mostly they were treated pretty badly by 17 yearolds trying to keep up with Jap 2 strokes....

Had a few trials cubs in the early 70's, nothing as fancy as that one, one i had was quite trick but the others were just sports cubs stripped back with trailmaster tyres and a big back sprocket. They were quite unreliable, especially with ET ignition or worn distributors. But very nice to ride when running sweet.

Micky's comments about trying to compete with the modern two strokes, rings true for me as well.
