I`ve had my 12 for 4 years now and my eye is wandering :eek over to the Triumph Tiger 1050 to be exact and they`re offering £800 of bling with the `08 bikes bought before the end of september.
I`m looking at travelling down to the south of France and tbh I sometimes think I`m living on borrowed time. I don`t want my so far reliable 12 fatally breaking down and having to be rescued thus ruining my hol :( but the 12 is a great bike only lacking in some hard luggage for my jolly that would be in with the Tigers bling.
I`m gonna have a try on a S3 to try out that 1050 engine and throw a leg over a Tiger to check out the seat :D

Hmmm, it`s getting some thinking about this
 
I tried one before buying my GS, and found the Tiger's suspension incredibly harsh.

I'd insist on riding an actual Tiger before you part with your cash...
 
my mate has a tiger....

Every trip to France and the same thing happens...

Electrical fault or his funny snail cam things pack up and he ends up hitting his tools with a stone to unrelease it...

Me, well I'm usually drinking a beer and apologising to the locals for his language...

Dont be too sure they're that reliable :eek:
 
I too tried one before buying (another) GS. Handling is awful compared to GS, but engine is superb. Brakes are mediocre, riding position is poor.

Make sure you ride one before committing.
 
A Tiger is not a GS, that is, it's not a dual-sport bike, it a fancy street bike, which have the capability to do a bit of gravel road.

The 1050 engine is awesome (I had a ST1050 for 3 years), and I was looking at the Tiger before I got the GS. I don't like the Tiger 1050, and I still think that Triumph did something stupid when they discontinued the 955i Tiger which was on more or less the same level at the GS.

Now I`m surprised at the comment of poor handling and riding position, I would`ve thought they would`ve been at least as good as the GS and as for the brakes my Triumph Daytona 955i stoppers were brilliant, at least as good as the GS`s

Now I wouldn`t buy the old Tiger as the GS is far better at what it does and I agree that the new Tiger is a street bike which , to be honest, would suit me fine. I`m no off road god but from what I`ve seen on here neither are a lot of people who think they are :augie :D

and yet my mates 955i brakes were possibly THE worst ones I've ever had the misfortune to ride a bike with....:eek:
 
The build quality of Triumphs is poor and the attitude of the factory warranty department should you have a problem is piss poor.

I used to do a bit of maintenance on mine though as the pistons were known to stick on the seals and cause bad braking. I did a lads Sprint once and he nearly fired himself over the bars they were that much better :D Has he still got it?
 
Very interesting link thanks. I notice you mention the cheap looking bars and clamps and that was also something that stood out for me when I looked at one! Nothing a nice set of Renthalls won`t cure :D and did you know that the 1150 GS handguards fit the Tiger?

aye he has..but it's had fresh fluids, fresh lines, fresh m/c under warranty and the brakes are still sheite !:(
Makes a nice noise tho !:D
 
What year is it? Mine was a `99 T reg anyway tell him to try this. Whip the pads out and gently push the pistons all the way back in, I used to give mine a wipe round before I did this, then put the pads in again and pull the brakes. Then do the other side, he should then find a difference. Hopefully better! If not its cost no money :thumb2
 
I bought a new 1050 Tiger last summer, (have still got my GS1150) have now covered 6k miles on it. I find it very comfy, the engine is a peach, it's well fast and smooth, the handling is certainly good enough for my very limited skills and experience :)

At the 6k service I complained of slight judder on front under hard braking, susupected warped discs after frantic ride around the Alps and dolomites in June. The dealer confirmed the fault and the matter was rectified immediately under warranty. Other than that the bike has been faultless.

A few years back I considered buying the Tiger 955, but the handling was mushy compared to GS, and brakes not as good. The 1050 is designed as a pure road bike, no off road pretensions at all.

I tried one. Took delivery of my GSA on Friday.

Loved the engine. Hated the full on assult of the wind and mega noisey.

GSA is streets ahead
