I had earlier read somewhere that if a CD or DVD had light scratches that made them unreadable or unplayable that it was possible to effect a restoration using 'rain X' rain repellent for windscreens.
Tried on two discs today and it worked a treat, one was a program disc from which I unable to install a Microsoft product, the other a back-up disc with files I couldn't open, both worked perfectly after treatment with the rain X, just put a dab on a lint free cloth and rub onto surface rubbing until a haze develops, then buff it off
