I found this tip on the Internet and have already implemented it on my own GS.
As the text is German, I'll translate: drill two holes next to where the sparkplug cable enters under the valve cover strip and fix the cable with a Ty-Rap to the valve cover strip.
Tip: If you heat a screwdriver the width of a Ty-Rap in a flame and press it in the right place you don't need to 'drill' a hole. Five minutes work and no more chance of losing your 'valve cover strip'.
