This has never happened to me before, Tyre has 1200 mile on it. Third time I used this tyre size (140x80x17) and no probs before..

The tyre has not been spun and have not locked up the back end.

Centre lug beginning to do the same. There are also cracks appearing around the
blocks:eek:

So what do you all think?

I had one on my 1100 a few years ago that turned light grey and had the blocks peel away. The replacement was fine.

I can't get on with them on the road though.

Had several sets on my 1150. Done London to Cardiff/Middlesborough/Manchester/Harrogate return type trips whilst making progress. Never had a problem. But today was hot. Dont think I ever really pushed them in 23oC heat as I always tend to travel very early am or through the night (or into the North or Wales which means watercooling). So maybe just too much heat through the blocks?

Fellow rider here in SA had same problem with "delamination" for want of a better word... also after a hot day. Had about 500km on it - took it back to supplier who promptly changed it for a new tyre.

Saturday was not hot the last set didn't look like this, I was only out for an hour!!
The others got me to south of Spain and from Andorra to Calais in a day at 30c with only fuel stops (80-90-100mph) Fully loaded after off roading for a week.

Popped in to see the guys at the bike shop, They've ordered a new one, and will change that over at the weekend. The damaged tyre is going back too the Conti supplier... for......lets hope a refund :handbag

Not sure if the legislation covers tyres, but I dont see why not. If less than 6 months old then I would be arguing that the retailer must replace FOC with a new one, end of.
Had this crap a few years ago with Sones Tyres/Metzler over the Front Tourances. I loved Sones, so I didnt fight him, but he did surprise me when he told me the tyre would have to go off for analysis etc etc. Metzler eventually offered me 90% of the net value of the tyre (they deemed it 10% worn after less than 2 miles) leaving me with the loss of the VAT, fitting etc.

Needless to say I have never bought a Metzler since, nor will I ever again.

And if I ever get a tyre like that fitted to my bike again my only offer of settlement to the supplier/fitter will be 'come and change it now'.

I learned something very useful about tyres this weekend when one of my camper tyres started to delaminate. The tyre guys showed me an imprint on the tyre that they said all tyres must have. It denotes the date that the tyre was made (12 98 ) is the twelfth week in 1998. Tyres older than four years should not be sold. Is it possible that yours could in fact be old stock
which could be the cause of premature cracking.. They said that it was always advisable to check the "new" tyre to see what its date of manufacture is before buying.. This is not usually a problem with bike tyres but I suppose there could be some old stock lying about.......... Like in my garage,, Must check.:blast

Tyre pressure good:thumb2 , will check manufacture date tomorrow:eek:.

I only ask as I've damaged these road/trail tyres (other makes) by riding back from a trail riding outing with the pressures set much too low. I suppose the tyre overheats.

Only time I've seen that was on the front in South America - I put it down to too much weight. The blocks were splitting off.
I think you got a dud.
Done probably 60,000 on TCKs and love them. They do blue and peel a bit on the edge in 'normal' :D use though.
Hope they get replaced OK:thumb2
