But the various "lighter" alternatives will be easier to clean if you're going off road. Similarly the front sprocket cover gets well clagged up - take it off and clean it regularly (or get one of the alternatives).
If you are going for TKCs to off road, it's well worthwhile investing in the TT front sprocket guard and a chain guide. At normal tighness the chain tends to stretch like chewing gum. Run it a little looser without the chain guide and it'll come off the rear sprocket regularly.
