I've used TKC80s exclusively for the last 15 years on 6 G/S and GSs and I wouldn't want anything else. They're quite good in mud if you let the pressures down to 18ish psi. On tarmac at road pressures I've never run off the edge of the tread. On the rocks and gravel of the Stella Alpina rally route they have great traction. I've used them for touring, off-road and the MCC long distance trials (I got the rules changed so big bikes could fit them). It's the one tyre you need.
In the past I've had some of those triangular type tread tyres, BMs and other big trail bikes. I'm not convinced. I took one pair off (Michelins I think) years ago because they didn't feel good and they weren't wearing out! Who wants a tyre so hard it doesn't wear out?
I had a Honda CRF250 recently and fitted MT21s to that. The engine wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding but it ripped through a rear MT21 in less than 2,000 miles.
TKC80s. Epic tyres. They wear out because they grip. If you put a new pair on for a 3,000 mile european trip there'll be a thousand or two miles left in them when you get back.
