To 'tout' or not to 'tout' is the question?

Hi All,

My question is simple, I have been reading now for many weeks about what to expect and experiance on my trip to Morocco (June 2008) and although i have my papers all sorted and up to date including my temp import for the bike and green card I wonder if its just easier to give in to the hardest working 'tout' and 20euro at the border and make life easier. What do you think, should I try my best without a tout and spend two hours saying 'No, thanks', 'No' and 'not today thanks' or just give in and say 'Yes' to one and be done with it?

Wastin your time without local help!

20 euro Hhmm Thats dear

10 dollars used to buy a HELL of a lot when I was last out!!!

I thought it was Dollars and sterling that were liked a lot out there?

Didn't know the euro had gained esteem???

If you must, just bung them 5 euro. Or do it yourself, you'll have a bit of toing and froing from one window to the other, but they'll eventually deal with you.

Exiting to Ceuta on the way back your much better off bunging the man.

There's usually only one window open, and a very very long very slow queue.
Give it to the "man", and he'll disappear around the back and return in 2 minutes with your passport sorted, while the queue hasn't moved.
Best 5 euro you'll have spent on the whole holiday.

Fekking Norah. Typical wage for a labourer in Morocco is about 8-10 dh per hour. These guys are worth more if only for all their languages but €20 is 220dh which is a small fortune!

If you land at Tanger passport control is done on the boat, all you have to do is hand over your temp import form and show your green card. If you land at Ceuta you'll have to do the passport control at the border, but Fanum has done an idiot's guide to form filling on the knowledgebase thread.

It's not rocket science

Tim,

I have some years experiance of European two wheel adventures but this is my first trip outside the comfort zone, although I am already planning 2009 and 2010 both of which push the boundry, when riding in Europe I did not plan too much ahead and took each day as it happened I think I am in danger of over engineering this trip and reading too much of others experiance. I have read a lot of bad news stories of border crossings here and dont want to leave the border with a bad taste in my mouth, if you say its cool then thats good enough for me! :cool
