Have been offered a used TT R2 at a reasonable price. Any good?

Read a few "I hate it" or "I love it" posts on here but need a real world answer!

I have a Quest at the moment and Garmin don't do any upto date maps any more and Garmin suggested I buy a new Zumo unit.

So the TT looks a good alternative. As I have neve rused one I am looking for advice.

I use Tyre to map trips anyway and that is supposed to link directly to the TT unit.... but what other mapping would I need?

It won't come with a TT cradle to put on my current RAM kit? Ideas?

My 2p ...

The mount in the box is a RAM-B-178 and has 3" arm, so to adapt your Quest setup of RAM parts, get TT Rider 2 cradle (try www.buybits.com) and attach square base (AMPS hole pattern) RAM-B-347 onto the TT R2 cradle. You'll need four M3 x 15mm data security screws and M3 washers as well.

I used a TT Rider 2 for a while and it was great

Nothing went wrong, it has a simple interface, the mapping is very good too.

The only thing is there is no real equivalent of Garmin Mapsource...

But if you just need a simple 'does what it says on the tin' sat nav, they're great.

The TT Rider v2 comes complete with a 1" RAM ball on the mounting cradle, so it should work with your existing set up

Mine has been flawless (apart from the car mount falling apart recently) and you can preplan routes on your PC either by connecting the unit itself to the PC and using Tomtom Home (bit of a faff) or by using Autoroute and ITNconverter which is very quick and easy and much more user friendly than Garmin Mapsource.

Having used both Garmin and Tomtom products, I'd use Tomtom everytime as the controls are much more user friendly and the routing more logical

All you need is a 2mb NON-SDHC card and its easy as downloading the files and cutting and pasting it into the correct folder.
I had european maps on my normal car TT One, and just copied them to the Rider.

yer bolloxed in so much as the cradle can still be obtained from Karl @ buybits and the the four hole fix patttern on the cradle is *not* AMPS, so do not use RAM-B-347 easy twatting pitfall, can only use RAM-B-238 with two M3 x 15mm screws and M3 washers fitted like thus ..
