Hello Great forum guys ..

I have just had a replacement tom tom rider v2 from amazon.co.uk. The last one had stopped charging when on the mount. I traced the fault to the mount, the power went in but did not come out ... The terminals on the mount were badly corroded only after 6 months of use. Is this normal?

The last time I picked up the power directly from the battery with an inline fuse. This time I was hoping to wire into something that only goes live when the ignition is turned on. It don´t think a 2002 650GS has a power outlet(?) Anyone got any ideas where would be best to pick up power without hacking the wiring about to much? Photos would be a real help as its hard to picture ideas... But anything would help as I need to fit it this weekend.

Thanks guys:clap

Centech fuse panel from Nippy Normans with the relay.

That's what I got. Also makes any other electrical additons a piece of cake :)

your 650 should have a power outlet, try looking down the LHS of the front frame, roughly inline where your knee would be, and it should be there, but it is smaller than a standard car socket, and it has a flap on it.

wire it into your rear side lights.

Or temporarily direct to your battery.

A Centech is a great solution but will take you a while to collect the necessary parts and install. Ive got it on my bike and its great but was a while in the planning.

Great info I will have a go. On my last ram mount the connections corroded in less than 6 months. I take it this was because they were live all the time?

its not normal for the connections to corrode. Mines been on there for around 20 months now and still not corroded. I wouldnt say im the best at cleaning the bike either. :augie

In my experience of Garmin mounts, it doesn't help having them live all the time. If only it stopped other bits of the bike corroding like sacrifical anodes do :(
