Tom Tom RIDER

It seems to be worth considering.

• Sorted the screen glare that was a problem on the GO
• Battery powered
• Bluetooth - no wires

I just wish the software worked on a Mac.

Some questions for the more knowledgable GPS dudes out there:

• What detail do the maps work to? Will it have tracks and unclassified roads on it?
• What maps does it come with? Will you need to buy extra? Will it be a cse of swapping the SD card every hour?

TomTom Rider Maps

For the Rider only, TomTom will be switching to maps provided by Navteq, the same mapping provider used by Garmin so detail should be pretty good.

Press Release

The European version will offer a full set of European maps.

It should also have maps for Ireland and the Isle of Man.

Release is still early Autumn, but expect it to be delayed until the end of the year.

thanks for the info undesided between the tom tom or the 2610. (Shall i wait) i need to be sorted by 1.9.05 as going to france any idea of price for the 2610 found one @ £653 inc. car and bike kit with head set

If you need to be sorted by 1st of September, then you'll have to go with either the 2610 or the Quest. I think the chances of the Rider being available before the 1st of September are fairly slim.

Hi Julio

My old man bought his 2610 from Maplins in Leeds (next to HG) for a great price - last year - I think it was sub £600 - I thought that they are nearer £400 no but I might be wrong.

Maybe he'll give you a demo and discuss the pitfalls/benefits with you - he's in Leeds too. - search Beacon on the site.

is Tom Tom RIDER worth waiting for ?
this sort of product there will always be a better model due out in a few months (which often ends up a lot of months).
I wondered whether to wait too, but now I've had several months of 2610 I glad I got one.
