Route Planner

TomTom's online Route Planner is the best way to plan your trip online. It uses TomTom's expertise in navigation and smart mapping to give you the best information you need to plan ahead.

Live Traffic info
The traffic information shown on the Route Planner is live, so you can decide when to leave your home or office.

Smart routing
The Route Planner calculates your routes based on the real average speeds measured on roads. This will always provide you with the smartest route hour-by-hour, day-by-day, saving you time, money and fuel.

Most accurate map

The map is refreshed every day thanks to our Map ShareTM technology. This means that new changes on the roads spotted by members of the TomTom map community are taken into account when calculating your route.

Hmm - that's for cars driving in dense traffic in huge city areas. Has nothing to do with GS-bikes. Totally disconnected from adventure, small roads, rural areas.

Good to know. But still bad. We need some competition to Garmin Mapsource but this is not it. :nenau

How can you say it has nothing to do with GS'ing :nenau i do believe the odd GS or two lives in cities and one or two others ride through them :D

Surely they will develop it for traffic jams/flow anywhere and the Map Share would make for far more accurate route planing.... without using it i think you are being unfairly biased.... also if a route is clearer of traffic even if a bit longer a bike will still get there a bit quicker than filtering.

I can see no downsides to Tomtoms ideas if they can make it work... well the only downside is that Garmin haven't done it

Again: We need some competition to Garmin Mapsource but this is not it.

Mapsource is not a very advanced thing so it should not be all that complicated for TomTom to fix something that:

- can do simple route planning
- can read & write Garmin compatible GPX files with routes
- ships in the box with TomTom Rider

Offroad/adventure riders often rides in gangs that splits up in smaller groups. We always share the same routes. Garmin has 100% of this market (60Cx, 278, eTrex, Zumo). I arrange tours in the Alps, in Norway, in the Baltic and I have met 100+ diffrent riders the last year. All of them with GPS. All Garmin.

Lack of competition is always a bad thing. Please do me a favour and fix a simple route planning tool for TomTom!

Got my access to the service this evening and had a couple of tries at different routes, it appears that the European Map is at least 3years and possibly more out of date.
