Just connect it to the battery, if it came with a fuse I can't remember, but I know I didn't fit one myself.

I wouldnt connect it direct as there is no inline fuse. Should the terminals short then you would have a issue no doubt. Cable would probably fry before any decent damage but still not worth the risk.

On the Right hand side of the bike near the key points for the seat there is a lead supplying 12v to the rear side lights. I tapped into there for autocom and Rider, and then ran a negative to the battery. I cheated though and piggy backed onto the autocoms power source which was fitted by the dealer so this is the dealer recommended place for power.

You could go to a accessory socket, front lights, loads of places.

I can send a photo if you need help identifying a place to tap into.

If you ride a 1200GS (may be the same on other Beamers) there is a special socket on the left side of the headstock for satnav which is ignition controlled. It takes a bit of looking for and may be under the wiring loom covering but you can feel the lump and pull it out.

Dealers sell a plug for it but I just soldered the ends of the satnav wire to make them stiff, pushed them into the socket and covered with insulating tape . A bit basic but has worked OK for two years.

Now it dont work

I have had my rider2 working well using a the assessory power supply for several months. I saw the threads relating to using the BMW sat nav connection near the headstock and the instructions that have been posted.

I found the BMW input clip and thought it didnt seem to be difficult.

I copied the instructions and the thing would not charge on the bike.

No problem I thought, I'll return to my previous set up. Put it back as before and now it won't charge from that.

I checked that there was power from the assessory point and that was ok, checked that there was power on the cradle and yes it showed that 3 out of the four pins were live [the other I assume is the earth.

I googled the problem and it points to the connection to the pins but I thought that was the problem with the rider1 setup not the R2 and the new 'ram' cradle etc.

Anybody got any ideas.

cheers
