Check the pin contacts at the rear of the unit for drilling before you buy it.
I use one, as do a couple of mates. The trick is to fit the Touratech mount, which prevents problems with the power and data pins at the rear from drilling through the unit due to vibration. The standard Tomtom Rider 1 mount is shit and causes the drilling problem, which is probably why the redisgned the unit as the Rider 2.
I also use mine in my company car for navigating to and from clients with the windscreen car mount and power adaptor.
Lots of criticism from Garmin owners (I have both) but for just navigating about they are great easy to use little units, with a simpler interface than the newer Garmin Zumo.
Mapping can be kept up to date by subscribing to updates via the "Tomtom Home" browser application. My mapping is quite old, probably 4 years at a guess. Only found one road that was slightly different to the map I have, and one street was now a dead end, so I haven't bothered keeping my maps updated.
Plenty of speed camera database info for them, along with downloadable POI etc.
