Been looking at getting a satnav for my 1150GS, but have resisted due to the pricing, but they're coming down and I saw the tomtom rider v2 on Amazon for £219.99 today. Have been very pleased with the tomtom I had for the car - but the experience on this site with the tomtom v1 seemed to be mixed and the Garmin Zumo is recommended (but more expensive).

Anyone had experience of the tomtom v2 (are the changes just in the mounting?) and what do you think at that price??

Dunno.......but if nobody posts here I'll ask my mate who was given a free V2 after all the problems he had with the V1.

.....tomtom rider v2 on Amazon for £219.99 today

What's this about though....could be worth a phone call before ordering ;-)

Availability: Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months

I have had both the V1 and V2,.... The V2 was sent as a replacement for the V1 due to cradle problems. The V2 is a totally different mounting option (Ram mount) and the unit slides into the cradle which works superbly!.. The software has been updated with more options... Im very pleased with mine :thumb

NB: The headset although works great wont go on my System 5 because it clamps to the outside and the linning gets in the way.

It's a staggeringly cheap price. I bought one a couple of weeks ago for the then cheap price of £264.

It's very user friendly and light years ahead of my Garmin 2610 :thumb2

The bracket has been completely redesigned and is very secure.

I know of some people who've ordered them in the past few days, despite the stated leadtime, as the biking season for many doesn't start until March/April. Their estimated delivery date has been quoted as between 28th January - 18th February

Don't know where that price was on Amazon's site, but the Rider v2 Western Europe is currently showing as £325, and the Great Britain version is currently £285.80 :nenau

Amazon

You're right, the offer has now gone. I hope they honour the order I placed yesterday for one at £219! The listing yesterday said it was 33% off the normal price which would put it at £325 as it shows now.

I have a Mark 1 and Mark 2 (free gift from Tomtom after problems)

The only differences between 1 and 2, apart from cosmetics) are the redesigned cradle and a change from a Bluetooth dongle to a Cardo headset.

The cradle is a major plus. The Mark 1 cradle was crap and caused most of the problems. I think the Cardo is a backward step. I can't fit it to my BMW System 5, Shueberth C2 or my wife's BMW System 4 without cutting chunks out of the neck skirt. If you do get it to fit its a sod to keep having to tuck the mic under helmet and get it comfortable. I think they are only really suitable for open face lids. If the Cardo is no good there is no audio out so you can't connect it to an Autocom or similar without spending another £80 on a different Bluetooth dongle.

The price sdeems OK but I far prefer my Garmin ans unless you are desperate to get one now I would save a few more sheckles and get a Garmin.

Mrk 1

I have a mark 1 Tom Tom which after major initial aggro with power leads and holders failing is now brilliant.....I bought a Tuaratech mounting bracket for it and it's been perfect since.

I dont like having an earpiece in so dont bother. The graphics and user interface are really easy and I am well pleased with it as it's so easy.

I would luv to have the techy knowledge to download routes into it tho. For the money it's easy to use, easy to read and now reliable so gets 10/10 from me

Amazon!!!

Amazon have cancelled my order stating that the £219 price for the TTR was incorrect. They of course have lots of 'get out' clauses on their website. Best keep looking again then.

Steve, that's exactly what I've done. Handtec was offering the best price for the UK model and when I get around to doing Europe, I'll buy the maps off Ebay etc. Happy with the unit though, plenty in the box for the money. Mounted it on the screen frame so it sits above the speedo. Got the CANBUS cable on order from my local dealer.

Maps are available

Hi
As far as I know there is no UK or US model. Its only the maps supplied with the unit. So buy the cheapest one and add maps as required, in two words, "search torrents"

tomtom with caution

Not sure if this is still relevant - just took my new tomtom Rider V2 down to Spain/Portugal. Although I'm generally pleased I discovered a couple of problems/shortfalls:

1.) Some major Roads where not on the tomtom (I'm talking newish motorways in Portugal). They should at least have those pretty up to date...right?!

2.) 'Unpaved Roads' I was looking forward to this feature as I finally wanted to give my GS some GS stuff to do. Unfortunately, this also includes what can only be described as footpaths which you are lucky if you can go along with a dinky Yamaha XT or the like!

3.) I have not as yet found the option to turn 'Ignore Unpaved Roads' back on. This is a pain when you actually want to get somewhere without too much of an 'Adventure'.

4.) Lastly, it sometimes does not calculate a 'Fastest route' if there are too many way points. It will do a shortest but not a fastest. This can be a real pain!

Some of these could well be my failings so will have to have a good one-to-one with the destructions!

I'll put together a proper review when I find a minute.

Hope this was helpful!
