This may be in the wrong section but hey ho, :nenau

ive looked all through thsi foruma nd the interweb to try and find the best way of charging my tomtom whilst on the go , but cant find anything comprehensive enough. :eek

Is it just a case of using the wires that come with the rider and splice into a wire that come on and off with the ignition?
or wire it direct to the battery?
do i really need to add an extra socket and drill more holes in the body work? (fitted wingllets then realised they doo sod all for me, for sale if anyone wants them!)

please help, got a bit a tour to france soon and dont want the thing to run out on me just when i need it!
cheers
jonyboy

What bike are you fitting the TT to??? BMW recommend that you wire to the back light. That's what i did with my Triumph Trophy, 1200GS and my partners 650GS. I used a 3amp in-line fuse on all occasions.
Cheers,
Brian

shall plough on through my electrical stupidity ( and general stupidity) and seek the solution in the gps section (doh!)

Excellent... and a sale too, it seems, of the winglets. What more could you want?
:D

The 1200 has a blanked off dedicated power supply, sitting behind the headstock / oil cooler. It is switched with the ignition, so you can avoid connecting your TomTom direct to the battery.

Here is a thread on how to make the lead. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117400&highlight=zumo+lead It shows the method for a Garmin device but I guess a TomTom will be similar. You may (I don't know) be able to buy a ready made lead if that is easier.

You shouldnt need 3amp, it will draw less that 1amp. Around 0.85 by my calculation.

Ive had mine wired into my rear driving lights by BMW when I purchased my bike (1150). Since then I have removed and refitted to a similar location. :thumb2

On the 1200 I would recommend researching the socket as linked to earlier as that seems the best location to connect to.
