Too short to ride?

Thanks for a handy link Tom. As well as checking that your legs can go all the way down, it's a handy way for lankies to see if they look a bit daft perched atop sporty wee roadsters, before the shop window ride-by check reveals the awful truth.

Those with leg-length concerns also might want to consider leg 'splay' caused by width of saddle & side panels.

The 1200GS is actually relatively slim-waisted in this regard, whereas bulbous, hippo-shaped bikes with wide, comfy saddles may have low quoted seat heights, but are actually a bit of a stretch because your legs don't go straight down.

Sadly just confirms what I already knew - no way in hell I'm ever going to be able to have a GSA! :nenau

Good link though!

Hi I had a a GS 1150 higher than normal as its nice to ride licke that stoped counting after dropping it 16 times just to heavy bicke but knice to ride been riding a hp2 the last 4 years even higher againe bit licke been on a horse really must be 1,5 foot between me and the roede but in 4 years and 30000 km only droped it once I am small 1,70 :blast but I wouldent feel safe riding a lower bicke now :thumb2

When I use that link ,my feet are floating in mid air on the last two bikes I've had, f800gs and now r1200gs, I put one foot down only and have had no problems height wise with either.. Try the bike you fancy even if this link puts you off...
Useful if you like both feet planted on ground.

Aye, it's full of shit. It has my feet miles of the floor (5'9" 30" inside leg) on a 1200GSA. I seem to manage just fine tho...

Ah, crack on....:D Just goes to show at 6'6" I look like a tw@t on most of the bikes I've owned...:D

What a great link, some seem to disagree with it's accuracy though I see.

I haven't even sat on a 650 GS yet, but being a short arse at 5 foot 6 (30 inch leg) is it even worth me considering a normal GS or should I get the girly one with the lowered seat? ;)

Hi modman, it's not the seat that makes them girly:D

Go to your dealer and try one. They'll probably have a lower seat for you to try on the bike. If that's too high, then you can get a lowered chassis version.

Depends on your level of confidence I think. I'm 5' 7" with a 29 inside leg but have no trouble with my F800GS, nor the R1200GS I had before. Can manage the GSA as well, as long as the seat's in the low position.

Can't get both feet on the ground on any of those, though...

(edit) You should be fine on the F650GS, at least, but try the others anyway.

Thanks for the quick replies chaps! Looking good then. I've just posted a proper "Hello world" thread in this section so shall see what people think to my idea, but sounds like I should be able to fit on one.

I'm 5 11 and been riding 12+ years and I find the 800 tall after 7 years on a Transalp. Unless you're on the move its a handful (especially in traffic compared to the TA) - I find it very top heavy when trying to park it.....

Amazing link! Thanks very much for that!:thumb2

Will come in very handy indeed..
