Hey'

Anyone know where I can get a tool that will undoo the headset on the 650gs?

I need to change the bearings and seats, but have come to a grinding hault after removing the top yoke.
The tool I need is some sort of pin spanner.

Any ideas?

VAL.H you could probably get one from bm but a cheaper method i used was a hammer and little chizel . just knock it round they arnt on very tight least mine wasn,t.
This method will leave a gouge in the edge though depending on how hard you hammer it.

just been out and done the job. It did much less damage than I expected, though as I thought the lower yoke is u's.

Thanks Matey :thumb2 :thumb2

For all your F650 maintenance have a look on the chaingang site
www.f650.com they have also compiled 3 DVD#s that cover everything you might need. TThe lastes DVD shows how to do the steering head bearings

For the steering head bearings you remove the top yoke and then the lock bolt with the big allen key slot and this allows you to remove the cap with knurled edge with a normal adjustable/plumbers wrench.

Thanks Komatias, I'll give the 650 site a look.

I tried the plumers wrench but the cap was tight enough for me to be concerned about the amount of damage I would do, 'didn't want to mess it up too much'

Cheers Val.

i made my own shb tool ,a bit of cutting welding drilling etc .

a bit heath robinson but it works fine ;)

I'm thinking a strap wrench would have done the job. Think I'll go do a raid on my Dad's tool box for when I put it back together at the weekend 'though I will probably be able to get about the right tension without too much aid of tools'

I`ve never tried it on the 650 but for the 1150 I used crows feet sockets.
