Hi guys just bought a topbox from a guy here, for my 1200gsa,i already have the panniers which are coded to my key,the lads taken the locks out of the box,my question is,can i just take the locks to a locksmith with my key and get it matched,or is it main stealer.........iv searched the posts and i know it can be done yourself, but id rather get it done properly and not have springs and bits all over the floor....TIA for any help.....:Motomartin

It is easy to do but you'll probably need a set of the lock 'wafer' things, I think Motorworks sell them.
There's 3 different wafer types and its just a case of trial and error sliding different types in until they don't stick out from the lock barrel when you put the key in.
Very, very easy :thumb2

cherokee if you need wafers and springs ive got loads you can have some or post me your lock and key and i will do it for you,or when your delivering near me ill meet you, remember you looked at my 04 1150adv(which you didnt buy ya fecker:D)

I've just done all 8 locks on my new panniers and top box...

really easy once you have worked out your code...

Secret was that there is one too many slots on the lock barrel... put the non coded one at the rear.

use the wafers from the front of the lock barrel and leave a gap between the last wafer and the end one...

if you get stuck i'm not a million miles from you near Baldock - I'll help if i can...

Hi guys just bought a topbox from a guy here, for my 1200gsa

I have just done 6 locks on my panniers and it was easy, I would have been doing the locks on that top box too if you hadn't beaten me to it, I was 2nd dibs.:blast

How many?

"...I've just done all 8 locks on my new panniers and top box.." Wherever do you find all these locks???

"...I've just done all 8 locks on my new panniers and top box.." Wherever do you find all these locks???

I'll do this slowly so you can keep up as I count...

1 on each pannier to lock it to the frame... =2
1 on top box to lock it to rack................. =3
1 on top box to lock it shut..................... =4
2 on each pannier lid to lock both ends shut =8

Managed to keep up... good... shall we do spelling next ? :augie

I'm short of locks

"....Managed to keep up... good... shall we do spelling next ? ...." No, not really Uncle. It seems that BMW France sell a simplified system!!! I have ONE lock on each pannier; When that is unlocked I can open the pannier or take it off the frame. I have TWO pannier so that makes TWO locks so far.
I have ONE lock on my topbox. when I unlock that it enables me to open the topbox lid or remove the topbox from the bike. That makes THREE.
If I transferred my TWO panniers plus ONE topbox to another bike I would therefore have to reset ,recode or call it what you like a total of THREE locks 'if i wished to use a single key to match up with the key used for the IGNITION, PETROL TANK and SEAT.)
My wife goes one better on her Suzuki - and she doesn't need a key at all. NOT even ONE. But that is another story!!

Ah, the penny has dropped !!!!!

"....Hi guys just bought a topbox from a guy here, for my 1200gsa...."
No doubt the Adventure model has a more complicated system than the standard GS.....sorry I should have read mire carefully.
