Well this year I agreed that we would leave the bike and have 2 weeks touring in Mrs C's convertible. Destination a loop around northern Spain.

First stop Santander :(

Next time I would roll off the ferry and make a start with the trip as an overnight in this city was nothing special.

We were looking forward to a selection of pinchos, but the bars were heaving to such an extent you could not see the food on offer. After a number of false starts we finally found this place which ticked the box.

Our hotel was a design triumph, fitting the place on a postage stamp on a hillside. The car went down in a lift into the basement

We had a sea view, overlooking the backside of Santander :augie

So we quickly headed off west to Galacia and the resort of Sanxenxo.

One notable thing is the roads are fantastic. Mainly dual carriageway with 120km limits snaking across the hills and valleys. Good fun even in a car :thumb2

Sanxenxo turned out to be a real find. Our hotel Carlos Silgar was a very short walk from a perfect beach.

If this looks too commercialised there is the un-touched north bay.

It was hosting a European football competition.

Leaving the west coast it was time to head east to the Med. Our mid way stop was Burgos.

Our hotel was a conversion of a very historic dwelling.

A visit to the local tapas outlet was not too hard on the wallet, especially when this included a couple of large reds :thumb

Not so good was a day in the car wearing a t shirt :(

Next stop Tamariu on the Med above Barcelona. A very very nice and quiet part of the world with excellent sea food.

So, time to turn around and head back north through the Pyrenees and a blast on the N260.

What a cock!

Our last stop was San Sebastian. Fook me it was busy :eek::eek:

We eventually adapted to our surroundings, but probably will not be a place we will return to.

So - car v bike? The car was a hoot on what were very quiet and scenic roads. But I could not stop giving envious looks to every bike :green gri

Ps. I forgot to say the roof did not go on once :)

THAT photograph alone says it all to me ... give me the Wild Atlantic Way, the Western Isles or lost in the hills and quiet backwaters of the Süd Schwarzwald or Eifel's, the mountain villages of the Pyrenees ANY time :thumb

That is NOT a holiday!!

That is NOT a holiday!!

What .... Coop's holiday snap on the beach :D

THAT beach is what my worse nightmares are made off :blast

Just had two weeks on the 800 with biker chums from on here, Luxembourg, France, Germany (2,000 miles) then two weeks with girlfriend on the 650's round Ireland (another 2,000 miles) .... my kind holiday for sure :D

But I guess it takes all sorts eh :augie

:beerjug:

yup...you and me both...just done a couple of weeks through and in France...down to the Med, Tarn, Millau, Camargue, Ardeche, Nimes....just the best....did see some bosoms on the med shores though!

:thumby:

Thats right you retired old farts, piss all over his holiday.

Us younger dudes are checking out all the topless chicks in the pics.

Nice beemer Coops.:beerjug:

I saw some bosoms too :D

.... but they weren't 'untouchable' ;)

It's not my choice of how to holiday but good on you for trying something different.

Great photos and I bet that deep down you enjoyed yourself, although you may have missed your bike.

Lorraine can't get on a solo and struggles even to get in or out of my sidecars because her back is bolloxed (three degraded discs and the vertebra grinding together) so for the last few years when I've holidayed with her,it's been a car trip to wherever.
As I said initially,it's not my choice of how to holiday but at times it did make a kind of refreshing change to be comfy and free of the bike gear.
No 'topless' driving for us though...it's aircon on full and a delicious 10 degree coolness.

And given my bike selection,it's good to exceed 60mph at times....:D

Thanks for posting. :thumb2

Good photos. Did you manage to get into the Picos at all? Spectacular views and lovely roads for a car or bike.

i guess it's different strokes and compromises.

The trip was enjoyable. Having previously done the Pico's (Hotel del Oso) getting to the Galician coast was good, albeit the sea is on the cool side. Also good value for money :thumb

Tamariu on the Med is a great place with great sea fayre and some arduous coastal walks.

We were lucky to be fairly traffic free and so my worst nightmare of being stuck behind motorhomes going across the Pyrenees did not materialise. Infact I got a free run at some of the passes which left more than the normal amount of rubber behind :augie

The worst bit was San Sebastian. The photo was my first view of the beach and my heart sank :( However Mrs C was happy with sun, sand and sea so I made the best of it and did some exploring. Back street bars, chats with the locals. It worked out but I will not be back.

Anyway just been out for an early morning run on the bike to start getting in tune for the Lad's european week away late August :thumby:
