The new bits and bobs for my bike have arrived today :D
Unfortunately I didn't realise BMW use Torx fittings rather than Allen keys like my other bikes, so I don't have the tools to fit them :blast

I have managed to find some so I've been able to fit a couple of bits but they don't seem to be that common.

So before I order some new tools for expedited delivery I want to check that I have the bits I need.
What tools / Torx fitting sizes will I need to work on a 2015 GSA?

Specifically I'm struggling with the bar ends (to fit the GiVi hand guard extenders), handlebar mounting (bar risers), screen mounting (new windscreen) and exhaust hanger (new end can). I've not been able to explore too far so if anyone has experience of fitting these any advise is very welcome. Also any common bolts, screw sizes, etc so I can make sure I have them if needed in the future.

Cheers

Nippy Normans has about every thing you will need. Check out the web site.

Hi thanks for the reply, I have had a look but I don't know the sizes I need to buy.

Looking around the internet, they seem to be fairly standard sizes in all the sets.
My main concern is the barends, they look massive. I've tried a t40 in the exhaust hanger and bar mounts and they look like they nearly fit, so many T45? Most sets seem to go up to t50 but t60 can be bought separately.

The sets aren't cheap and I just want to avoid spending money unnecessarily by buying a huge top if the line set when i only need 3 or 4 fairly common sizes. Or worse still spending the money and finding I still need more.

You should be able to get a fairly comprehensive, reasonable quality Torx bit set from the likes of Sealey, Bergen etc for around £15 delivered. Ebay is a reasonable starting point. Obviously posher brands will lighten your pockets further.

It'll be much better having a full set than buying a couple of sizes, then finding you don't have the right one for another job & having to search & buy more.

Halfords. A set of 3/8th torx sockets and that's all your needs taken care of. Who'd have thought life could be so simple.

POL382 brilliant cheers. 15 mins left for Amazon next day delivery. I almost bought a set only going up to t50. Would have been more expensive than the one only including the ones you listed too. Cheers again

For the screen, remove only the middle torx screw on each side...if I remember correctly. After that the screen needs a little push downwards and it will release from the adjusters. Once removed its a doddle to change over the two long black screen thingys and the rubber bungs inside them.

Halfords proffesional 3/8" torx bits are the ones to get and quaranteed for life. Even cheaper with a trade card.

They can break and they change them no questions asked.

Amazon to the rescue!
Got a full set of Torx sockets T10 - T55, a Reversible Ratchet & a selection of Extention bars, oh and some loctite. All in about £25
They arrived about 3pm so Managed to get the dark tinted screen and GiVi hand guard extenders fitted.

Will probably have to wait till the weekend to fit the exhaust and bar risers. My dad is due to pop down to give me a hand. Looks like they will need a extra pair of hands to fit safely.
