Tossers with Guitars

The Bede ... I had a Takamine EF341 marked down for the job (the Bruce Springsteen Takamine ... probably a bit too posh for the job) ... but sadly that was stolen in Buenos Aires earlier this year (a woeful and tragic tale) :fiddle . [/QUOTE said:
I won one of those in a competition that Takamine UK held about a year ago. A really nice guitar but sadly shuffled off to e-Bay to help fund replacement discs on the GS :(

Slightly worse, I'd just won the bidding for my 12-string when I saw an EF-381 (?) - the 12 string EF341 on e-Bay. I asked a question of the seller and thought I would go in for a punt but got outbid by pennies in the dying seconds - ho hum

What can I say - I was going through my Johnny Cash period

Decidedly off the original topic ... but ...

... I would be seriously interested in an EF381 at sensible price. I'm interested in acquiring a 'working' 12-string in the not too distant future. My EF341 originally came from E-Bay when I lived in the US, it came from a Dentist in North Carolina ... $880USD inc shipping! and was absolutely perfect when it arrived, it even had the original plastic on the pickguard still in place.

... I had been looking for a replacement for the EF341, and was all set to have a friend bring one over from the US (1100U$ vs 1075GBP ... no brainer really).

... but I was in Capetown, South Africa, in early October and found a gorgeous Taylor 510-CE, mahogany body, spruce top and a stunning tone, far superior to the Takamine (bit more precious too, but still OK as a working instrument) ... £1100GBP (Best price I can find here for a 510CE is £1950UK, or $2400US  ). Don't know how they did it but it was the most amazing guitar deal I've ever found.

... I need an excuse to go back to RSA and try and get a Taylor 12-string from the same store.

... Non of the exotica is destined for the pillion-ride though ... I'll risk the Yamaha, but that's all.

I think the eBay seller said he paid £1200 for it and he had to have it specially ordered as it wasn't (isn't?) a UK model. If memory serves it went for just under £500.

Taylors :nenau

Lowdens :bow

:D

... Interesting concept, designed for air-travel ... unbolt the neck and fold it back into a shortened case. But I wonder you might end up with a 'slack' neck joint* ... rendering the whole guitar as useful as a choccy teapot. Besides I've generally had no problem taking a full-size dreadnought case on a plane as hand-baggage, and getting it to fit in the overhead lockers (Boeing 767 is an exception), when there is no locker long/deep enough I can usually get the plank stowed in the first-class coat-locker. (damn guitar gets a better seat than I do!)

... Even at current 'strong-pound' exchange rates the price is shocking ... $4500USD  ... you could get a hell of a Lowden, Taylor or Martin for that and have a mount custom fabricated with the change

I'm not sure the Ram mounts are going to do the job I need. But a 'single-sided' pannier frame with some bolt-eyes welded on, might provide the necessary transport solution ... I have a highly skilled welder mate lined-up, now to find the frame (I might end up asking him to fabricate a custom frame if nothing suitable pops out of our esteemed community of tossers!)

* No doubt a desirable physical anomaly if attending a Tossers drinkathon!
