I'm looking for recommendations for a Tablet type device please.
Must have GPS, 4g, wifi and micro-sd capability.
Price needs to be around £200-ish.
Main usage will be running as a navigation aid in a vehicle so will be mounted in a frame during that use.
Samsung seem to have a good foot-hold in the market..... what do you think?
Any information will be gratefully received.
Cheers.
Timpo.

Samsung are pretty good bit if you can drop the micro sd and want some future proofing then look at the nexus 9. You can plug flash drives into any of the modern android tablets so I wouldn't let micro sd stop you. Also with 4g you need storage less and use the cloud more. You know your needs far better than me though.

If you've already got a smartphone, then consider loading the NAVMII navigation software onto it. Its free and works on both Apple and Android devices. It downloads maps for the selected countries to your device and therefore doesn't require a mobile phone signal to work whilst on the move. To get round capacity issues on any device you can delete any maps you aren't currently using. Ive used it successfully in uk, spain and usa.

I've got Oruxmaps on my phone, and that seems to be a very good map app.
I am not after a compact device though, that I have covered by phone and Garmin devices. I want a large screen so I can see more of the area around my location when on a trip.

Hi, had a chat with my tecchie son today and he said that the apple, samsung or google nexus tablets should be ok for you. The ipads don't come with a micro sd slot so you would have to buy an external connector for it. 3 offer the best deal for data roaming abroad. If you already have a 4g phone and a good roaming data deal with your current provider then consider saving money by getting a tablet with no capability of taking a sim and user your phone as a mobile hotspot to connect your tablet to via bluetooth.

I must admit to being an Apple convert and am typing this on my ipad mini. Consumer Which normally rates apple ipads as the best tablet, but i know people who love their Samsungs. When i tour abroad i use my iphone as a mobile wifi hotspot to run our ipads off and that works well for us.

A new ipad mini is just over your pricepoint, but refurbished ones are available.

Good luck with your search.

I think you might find at 10 inch tablet is too big, my mate used to have one setup in his van for satnav and he stopped using it, a smaller 7 or 8 inch might be better.

Android with an SD card would be my choice, Samsung is the easy/obvious option but there are loads to choose from now.

Like others have said maybe use the 3G/4G on your phone and buy a cheaper tablet as a result.

+1 for navmii

cheers

Another vote for Navmii, its main advantage being as said, works without a data signal.
