Bit of dvice from people that may have done this re mileage, in june will travel from the tunnel first stop Metz, that should be easy enough, second day via vosages to mulhouse then to lake constance nonneheim germany, third day run to arraba and stop at the hotel olympic. the next one is the long run am going to run to split in croatia, anyone done this is it okay mileage looks ok ?

thanks

I have done London to Arraba in two and three days, mostly avoiding motorways.

The longer final leg is a decent distance, but doable, for sure. :thumb2

When are you thinking of going? The last time I went to Arraba it was early September and flecking with snow.

Funnily enough, I stopped at the Hotel Olympic in Arraba in 2004 - good food and lovely rooms; just make sure they don't try to charge you twice for drinks. The old girl on reception charged me for the drinks for the bar and then added them onto the restaurant bill as well - she'd just done exactly the same thing to some Germans who were checking out before me and luckily I spoke enough German to resolve the issue

I stopped in Chur in Switzerland on the second night out from home and then headed into the Doomites via the Lenzerheide, Fluella, Ofen, Umbrail & Stelvio passes - one of my best days riding ever :bow

The obvious route out of the Dolomites is the Grossglockner into Austria, which is even better still :thumb2

looking at doing this early june, so may be snow on some of the passes still, it was really the last run, was thinking of popping in another night somewhere but really want to push on to split.

Did a similar trip in late May/early June 2004 and the Stelvio was still closed, but all the other passes were open, although there was deep snow at the sides of the roads on the high ones :)

Done that several times, mileages OK but as states some passes may be closed still, 2009 Timmelsjoch closed when we we went in May and did't open until 6th June the day we went back through.

Stayed in Trogir just a couple of miles north of Split, we were going to ride coast road up through Croatia/Slovenia to Italy but had to use motorway as although beautiful road lots of towns so takes too long, just something to bear in mind.

If you have not got any accommodation sorted for Split can recommend Villa in Trogir that we used, owners cook for you, let me know if you want any details.

we stayed for one night half board where the owners cooked us a fantastic evening meal from local ingredients, offered us some home made wine which was excellent, he makes it by the 1000 litres!!!!

A nice walk into the old medieval town from the villa

Looking at doing something similar, probably leaving June 5th. and taking 6 days to get down

Calais- Metz
Metz- Davos area
Davos- Canazai via Fluelapass, Offenpass, Umbrail, Stelvio, Gavia
Canazai- Pula
Pula- Split, though I may take two days to do the coast road.

Couple of days in split then take 6 days for the return return via Plitvicka, Bled, Grossglockner, Krimmel Falls, Inssbruck, Black forest.

Hopefully all the passes should be open at that time of year, they were last time I was up there a few years ago.

The Gavia pass (south east of Bormio?) was rather chilly in July 2005 http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1896176&l=001e85ec9d&id=536519349 and the surface was appalling in places, but it was quite pretty :thumb2

This was the top of the Fluella Pass at the end of May 2007

Nice pics Baz :thumb2

Nelly, thing to take into account as hinted at before is the typre of road you will be traveling on. Motorway = high mileage whereas villages (where all the scenery is) = low milage + time!!;)
