I was using a Tour X with my 1200 for the first time today and I got one hell of a headache!

The screen is set to the furthest forward position (i.e. the setting is the highest).

If I ride slowly ... below 40MPH ... these is no problem.

If I ride standing up there is no problem

If I ride with my head ducked down there is no problem

So I am guessing the way the wind is being deflected off the screen is causing some sort of buffetting/turbulence around the helmet making it vibrate.

Any ideas on how to stop this?

I am guessing it will require spending more ££. But I hope someone has had real experience and can offer a "proven" rather than theoretical solution.

Thanks in advance :thumb

It's probably the peak vibrating. If so, it'll produce a hammering vibration that's mechanically transmitted by the bones of your skull. In extremis, mine was so bad that my eyeballs used to vibrate, blurring my vision.

The easy way to tell is to grab the leading edge of the peak at speed. If the vibration stops and things become quieter then that is indeed the problem.

There's no really easy fix. So far, my remedies consist of:

1 A piece of screen edge trim on the leading edge of the peak to stiffen it.

2 Rubber shims between the peak and the sides of the helmet shell.

3 A Laminar Lip attached to my screen.

4 Filtered earplugs as opposed to foam rubber ones.

The Laminar Lip is probably the single most effective mod for me.

Do you have to do ALL of the items listed?

I am assuming you still use your Tour X even with this problem?

When my 1200 was in for a service they loaned me a 1150rt & i found the screen better in the lower position with tourx on ,you can have a screen to high

As I said, the single most effective remedy was fitting the Laminar Lip. However, they're not the easiest of devices to acquire. You'd need to order one from the US since they don't have a European distributor. I collected mine from their workshop when we were in California last year. However, since I don't think there's one easy fix, you need to keep trying different setups until you arrive at one that suits you.

Oh yes. I still think it's an excellent lid....much improved, for me, by the addition of an Oxford Huff.

That's true, the vibration from the peak was less when the screen was in the lowest position but once you fit a Motorrad Concepts GPS mount, the screen no longer goes down to the lowest position....
