Just got 8000 miles out of Dunlops too (rear) It maybe had another 500 miles in it but I didn't want to find out halfway up the PIcos de Europa!! (going soon and getting EXCITED!!!!)

I read all the forums about changing to different tyres but i'm gonna stick with the sticky Dunlops.

I ride a 05 1200 gs and if it goes off road it means I have made a terrible mistake!!!

I am on my second set of EXP's and find wet/dry grip on tarmac to be excellent but agree fully that they wear far too quickly.

On Tourance "Classics" I got through two rears for every front but the Exp front developed cracks at the base of the blocks before it reached its minimum wear.
It was Vines that brought the cracks to my attention as the tester would not take my bike out for a road test after the service because of them.

Guildford Tyres fobbed me off saying that it was overheating due to reduced tread and said it was not worth sending back to Metzler as they at best, would only give me a 10% credit. Now the replacement has the same cracks with nowhere near the same wear as the first.

As I do a high mileage EXP's end up being a major running cost, best part of £850 a year so am highly tempted to return to the "Classics" next time but will I find a compromise on grip?

Bugger. Had front and rear fitted on Saturday, at 8,300 miles. First front, second rear (the number of "look at the state of that f***ing tyre" passers-by at Ashby Folville last week finally convinced me that I had to shell out on a new rear). Annakees to date - will be watching wear on the rear (tyre) with concern.

BTW, the tyre fitter (Central Wheels in Coleshill - very professional) pointed out the warped n/s front disk. Is it too much to ask for brake discs that last more than 8,000 miles?

Follow up

Called in at Pidcock's this afternoon in order that they could look at the disc. They agreed it was warped and will replace it under warranty. They also pointed out that I was still covered as the clock is showing 9,400 miles. Evidently those robbing bastards at BMW say that after 10,000 any warping is "wear and tear" How can they get away with such an appalling attitude to quality and to customer service? Presumably because they know that mugs like us will continue to buy. Apart from writing to "customer services" does anyone know a way by which we can usefuly make a point?

Just changing my EXP's. Slightly squared off but not bad, there might be a bit of life in the front but I'm changing both at 5500 miles. I got about 8000 out of the old Tourances ( on a 1200 rather than a 12GSA) but these have been good in wet and dry, some mild off roading, some hooning and some touring. THYE grip has, I feel, been better than the old tourances which gave me a couple of slides when I wasn't expecting it.

So I'm going for EXP's again.

Had 'old type' Tourances on from new but a series of punctures in the rear one made replacement neccessary at 5750miles. Never had any problems with them but the front seemed to be wearing in line with the rear.

Decided to try the Conti Trail Attacks as they seem to be very well received by any press tests that have been done and have now covered aboyt 850miles on them.

Initial feelings are that grip is as good, if not better than the Tourances but the improvement is with the front end feeling much more secure.

I'll see how they wear but if my previous luck repeats, I will change due to puictures before they have worn out

Now done 50,000 miles on my GSA. Fitted EXP on rear for the first time last time and had to change it at 5400k. Checking back I am getting between 7 and 8 k from the standard ones.

So had standard ones put back on today. They have never let me down in wet, dry and the odd track day but the EXP has let go twice in the wet so not happy with it. Nothing serious but found myself sliding out that made the sphincter twitch a bit!

Also they told me that EXP's will not be available for much longer as Metzler are pulling them once current stocks are out. They have had some "issues" with them in the States so that's the end of them...if I can believe my supplier.
