Touratech / Quest mount warning

Just had this reply from 'Herbert' from Toratech;

Hi,

if the unit is propably inserted into the mount then it is absolutely impossible that the unit get lost.
The latch can´t open because we use a kind of bent-lever that is used over the top dead center.

Sorry but we are not liable for faulty operations.

Best regards

Herbert

To which I replied;

Herbert...thanks for replying but i'm afraid that's not true.....

At speed, the wind coming up from under the screen on My GS DID blow the catch open...I do a lot of off-roading on the GS and I run TKC80's, so I'm guessing all that vibration has made the mount loose.....

It flips open with minimal pressure now.......I even put another quest in the mount yestersay and it was easy to see how it would have come out with the wind blast.

Plus, as I mentioned previously, if the catch wasn't fiully closed on my mount, I didn't get power to the unit, and it had been on for well over 600 miles that day before I hit the high speed bit of the motorway.

I've looked at the mount and will be drilling a hole in the tab of the catch, then fitting a spring from it to behind the unit to keep tension on it, and hopefully stopping the loss of another unit.

When I can afford one that is........

:(

Bill,

I have read the **** saga ... if you need a solution and your 'tin can' is in my area then call-in and we'll sort the mount !.

RAM-man :)

Ta Steve, but I'm brassic right now.......And having spent 80 odd quid on the TT mount and lead, it'd be a shame to lose out on it.

I'm going to modify it to make it more secure with a return-spring.......if I can afford another Quest to go in it :rolleyes:
