Does anyone here use the Touratech Screen Extender???

If so could you give your opinions on it and even better a pic or two!!

I have tried various options, NN screens Vario and now have fitted all the parts to convert my GS screen to a GSA, this in the main is the best so far, BUT I do a lot of motorway work and still get some drumming/buffetting at speeds over 70, I can put up with this but after a few hours it's tiring and annoying, just before you all reply, I have winglets fitted, have tried Tobinators (got them for sale if you are interested)

I am also interested in getting one of these - I had a GS1200 and with a Wunderlich screen it was fine, but I now have a GSA and although it is a lot better in standard form there is still some buffetting.

Also what are the delivery times from TT? I have heard they can be quite lengthy.

thanks

Dunno about the Touratwat one but I've just fitted a Laminar Lip which I think looks a lot better than the 'Mecano' Touratech version.

First very short ride seemed OK but I'll have a proper ride tomorrow and report back.

yes i tried one of these too, load of rubbish and flew off on the motorway 66 pounds in the wind !!

I use one, very secure even at morotway speeds, and has reduced the buffeting by a significant marging. I only need earplugs with my tour x now.

Thanks, I assume you are using it with a GSA screen ??

I am looking to reduce drumming on my lid at speeds of 90 ish for a trip abroad, has it stopped this for you ??

Wully

Was this the one off Ebay?

Any chance of some pictures?

I got the Lip from 'Hero Blobs'

http://shop.heroblobs.co.uk/collections/bmw-r1200gs/products/laminar-lip-for-bmw-r1200gs-1

Today was the first time I'd got a chance to put some miles on it and after a bit of footering about with the screen settings I have to say that it works for me.

I started off with it set as high as it would go- which is higher than the standard GSA set up- I cut off the stoopid wee nipple things on the adjusters when I fitted the Nippy Norman High Wide screen off my 1200GS.

During my ride I lowered the screen by increments until I got it set so that the buffeting and noise were vastly reduced. I could get it so that at 80 mph it was calm and quiet but it was worse at 50-60 mph. The position I settled on seemed the best for 60-80 mph. I'll play with it some no doubt.

I would guess that this hight is dependent on your height and how far up the Lip you fit it in relation to your screen...

Sorry it's not to clear from the pics but if you get one then you'll need to spend some time setting for your own preference- for me on the more upright settings it made the noise and buffeting MUCH worse...

I wasn't too convinced by the sticky on method of attachment but it was fine up to about bye-bye licence speeds.

I have the Touratech one on my 2008 GS, and it has certainly made a difference for me (height 6'2")

There is now very little buffeting, very few dead flies on my visor, and has made the whole riding position much more comfortable.

Money very well spent if you ask me!!

I would show you a picture, but havn't worked out how to do that yet!!

yes i tried one of these too, load of rubbish and flew off on the motorway 66 pounds in the wind !!

Mine fell off at a set of light between two motorway sections..had been doing the legal limit ( honest officer) then at the lights I thought the screen had moved a bit so lent forward and checked the adjusters and the Laminar lip fell off...
The sticky pads had come off the screen leaving four small clean circles..When I got home I offered it back up and it stuck like sh*t to a blanked:nenau Checked it again this morning and it was solid.

But I still attacked it with the drill and some stainless steel M4 bolts- it isn't going anywhere now...

BTW- the drive home without it was feckin noisy and uncomfortable....

I'm sure you know that screens are all a personal thing, everyone is a different size and everyone has a different opinion on what the perfect screen should feel like. But...

I've got a touratech screen extender and I love it. I'm 5'11" and can have the visor up at motorway speeds all day long, it's quiet and calm. I think it's worth investing in the hard parts to keep your screen from wobbling too much (maybe not required on a GSA though?).

The down sides: If I want to close my visor it blocks off my front vent which makes things quite stuffy in there on a hot day. I tend to remove it during the summer months on shorter journeys for this reason. That's really not a complaint though :D Also I'm not a fan of it's looks, and it has left some scuff marks on my screen, though these are only because I didn't adjust it perfectly first time.

Notice I've got some winglets fitted too, They stopped the buffetting, the extender stopped the noise.

This is the only picture I've got of it, standard GS too so probably not what you're after but it gives you an idea anyway.

Hi.

I just got back from a 1500km road trip using the Laminar Lip I got from the States.

Firstly I have to say that I'm 6'6" tall, so every bit of screen helps.

The standard screen of the GSA is good, certainly better than the GS. The Lip gets the wind up just that bit higher. Still not enough for me, but getting there.

On my wee strom I bought a stupidly large screen from Cee Bailey which I kept after selling the bike. I'm going to have a play with it and drill it to fit on the GSA bracket. It'll put it on and see how that goes, it'll sit up there maybe another 4 inches over the laminar lip.

Might work. I'll let you know.
Cheers

I know this is on an 1150 GSA, but for me (6'3") it works well. (and it's the second time I've posted that picture in a week, but it's one of my faves)

Stronger screen supports needed

I use a touratech unit on a 06 GSA and it works very well. They recommend replacing the plastic lower screen supports with their metal ones because of the increased loading on the mountings at motorway speeds.

Easy to fit, works well, so no complaints here, does what it says on the tin.:thumb2

I use a lockable Touratech unit on my 2005 GS. Works OK, although still some buffeting at higher (80+) speeds. As I use custom earplugs for longer trips I'm not sure whether it reduces nois much - but I would expect so. (I'm 6 ft tall.)

The Touratech is very easy to fit - but, yes - it is a bit 'Meccano like'. Suits the rest of the bike then!
