I been thinking of a tool box for some time and decided on the Touratech, my decision being based on capacity, looks and cost - why pay £50 more for a Cymarc which is reportedly not fully waterproof - the Touratech claims to be. I already have an Airman pump and wanted to accommodate that along with a few tools and puncture repair kit.

Nippy Norman has the Touratech box on offer for £115 including postage, whereas the Touratech website is selling it for £102 including postage. Not a difficult choice. I've always thought NN added a substantial mark up and in this case they certainly seem to have done so.

The box is neat, well made and fairly easily fitted (thread locker needed).

Im pleased with it

Of course Touratech can sell their own product cheaper than a distributor....who buy from Touratech at wholesale rates. NN will be making less on it than Touratech are.

£13 on a £100 item is not a substantial mark up in retail terms.

NN will get 25% off TT retail.

In my experience (a long time ago) it would be closer to 50%. There are other factors that influence the price you pay. Different vat rates free postage and different quality of vendors. I'm not a fan of NN but if you leave out his attudide and the odd mistake he's not the worst. JJH

I spent a long time looking for a useful toolbox and choose one from Adventure Designs. It cost a fortune and took ages to arrive but it is huge, waterproof and, most important for me, has the biggest door of any of the toolboxes that I have found. http://www.advdesigns.com/rurelotoforb.html

Added now that I have looked at the TT box: It looks to be quite good. I like the removable door because the other rear-entry boxes that I have seen all have silly little doors. Do the P clamps mark the pannier? Do you have to remove the mud catcher? I had to do so for the ADv box and, although there is a cut-out for it, they do warn that it is possble for the box to touch the rear brake caliper if the bike is heavily loaded and the suspension not set correctly. I'm not sure that that the ADv box was worth $199 plus shipping to UK plus import duty - about £30 IIRC - but it was the best that I could find at the time IMHO.

I fitted the touratec box to mine last week and didn't have to remove the mud catcher, also they provide some grip tape to go under the P claps that should help avoid marking. I agree it's a great little product and looks fantastic on the bike.
