I bought this useful gadget (part 01-044-0450-0) from Touratech to power a number of additional devices, but unfortunately the instructions are in German.
Has anybody else purchased one and managed to fit it?
The only bit that I don't understand is to which standard BMW wire the ignition sensor wire is connected.
Many thanks

Hi there,

Touratech USA have a translation already:

I have actually fitted one and have the following advice:

I was concerned about which lead to connect the ignition sensor wire to, so I connected it to the power socket. This has the addition advantage of powering down 30s after the ignition goes off, getting you the advantages of the SSR-01 for half the price. Use a multimeter to work out which socket wire to connect it to.

Don't use the plastic wire connector they supply. According to my mechanic these are complete crap and only slightly more reliable than twisting the wires together. Cut the power socket lead and solder the wire in properly, then cover it with electrical tape.

Finally and most importantly - you don't need to remove the tank to fit the module. Remove the left hand panels and you should be able to see the back of the airbox and bung it there. I put mine in place with Velcro as I have currently only fitted GPS and Autocom power to it, and am bound to add more stuff in future. I spent ages getting the tank sorted, then realised I could have left it in place.

Check everything works before putting panels back on otherwise you may reassemble everything then discover you have plugged the accessories in the wrong way around. Of course, you would have to be a bit of a tit to do this and of course I don't speak from experience ;)

Does this box of tricks just "ease" the addition of extras or is it a a necessary part in order to expand the gadgetry?

I was hoping that my dealer could hook up my Autocom and GPS power to the SWS?

You get one power point by the top of your left leg, and one can be added at the nose a-la GSA. Which apparently isn't too expensive and acts the same as the left leg one.

Or:
You can hack into the cabling / connectors to the rear of the left leg plug
Hard wire bits onto the battery. At least with the first one and the OEM addition it keeps the power protection of the bike.

It's not essential. HMarc has published excellent instructions for adding stuff to the SWS:

I just liked the neatness of the Touratech solution.

I'm guessing its a little distribution box with a relay to switch the supply when the ignition is off.

I don't think I'm going to get one, as you can build the same thing with an automotive relay and inline fuses which takes up less space.

Many thanks for your advice.
When I access the quoted link, I get an error opening the Adobe document, something about "linear hint text" whatever that is, maybe I have an incompatible Adobe version.
Are you able to cut & paste it?
Many thanks,

I got the same. Right click the link and save it to your PC then open it. If you need to get to the page, go through the Touratech US site.

I was also planning to buy this Touratech part.

Actually I was asking myself if it wouldn't be better to buy the Spannungs-Steuerungsmodul SSR 01 (part 01-044-0690-0) instead of the TPS 15 (01-044-0450-0).
Does anybody know if it is worth while buying this one?

Check out my first message:

Sorry Bonjeroo, didn't read that very thoroughly.
OK, let's try it then that way. Thanks for the suggestion.
