Hope you can help. We've just set the TT Travel Event for 4-6 June. Part of that weekend I'd like to have a cross between a geocache and treasure hunt. Approx 4 hrs riding around the area, on-road, but picking out some decent routes and points of interest along the way.
Now apart from Mountain Road and that castle that's perched on the cliff edge (the one with the tunnels and the red kites flying around) I have no idea where to suggest folks could go.

Any thoughts on a suitably rewarding route?

Cheers.

How's about:

A4068 to Brynamman
Then A4069 over the top to Llangadog
A40 to outskirts Llandovery then minor road North to llyn Brianne reservoir
Hang a left towards Tregaron then up B4343 towards Devil's Bridge
Right over (I think it is called Aberythwith mountain road) and down to Craig Goch reservoir
Elan village to Rhayader
Then maybe A44 East to Llanfihangel-nant-melan
Down A481 towards Builth,
along A483 to Garth and up B4519 Upper Chapel
B4520 to Brecon
A40 to Maescar (or minor roads to Maescar from Upper Chapel)
A4067 back to Abercrav

That would give a good selection of road types - all paved and would take about 4 hours.

TBH there are a hundred other routes possible including gold mines off the very nice A482, or the one and only gay in Llandewi Brefi.

pm me if you need more, a prelim ride out or help on the day - I fancy a ride around these parts.

cheers

I did a Treasure Hunt for bikes a couple of years ago. The only snag is, it was all around Talgarth and Hay Bluff area. If of any use, I still have all the bumpf etc. REALLY EASY to do, if you don't get lost that is. PW, Gipsy, BigAL, Quicknick to name a few :D:D

"I'm an alien , I'm a legal alien" (thanks Sting), no idea where Talgarth is, nor Hay Bluff either. Are they near Ystradgynlais at all?
Only been here since the dark nights set in, so I've not seen much and have even less idea of the geography, than I do about comprehending Welsh. Now there's a language and a half!

Mapsource---find---cities--Talgarth,Wales=====:blast:blast:blast

I've got a map in the car and a Garmin. Perhaps I should have said I'd not heard of the place and don't know where it is, not that I don't know where it is and am incapable of finding out.

Still, that would be like pointing out the flaming obvious wouldn't it?:augie

a possibility?

Hey Lamble :thumb2

An idea!....

The guys that did the Abergavenny run arranged a route that was fairly popular with regard to sights, areas and nice roads etc? I'm not certain but I think it was PW that played part of arranging it? There is a thread on it but no directions or route indication?

I pressume you wouldnt want to incorporate the complete same route as it's likely to take out the element of adveture with 50% of us having already ridden the route. (Of course that excludes both you and me Steve :blast )

The Brynamman route has already been suggested and the run out to Llandovery is a goodun too! :thumb2 (West End cafe for a mid point stop maybe?)

Just food for thought! On that note I hope we will see you at the next feast "meat" lol :D

Gents,

Thanks for the tips. I do need to get out and ride soon too, but with bike events and a trip to Spain, it'll be late April I fear, before I can start to get local.

Steve have a search for past Snowrun's.

I intend doing a run in the Spring as the weather for the past few December's has been a bit chilly to say the least.

The Sowrun of past years is about 200 miles in total and takes in some great roads, the best of which is on your doorstep.

I've posted various files from years gone-by but can't read them as my home PC is no more so apologies if they don't fit the bill. (Need a new laptop)

Bring a few maps tomorrow evening to the pub and you'll be inundated with ideas for routes.
