Has anyone purchased any of the Touratech & Wunderlich Chinese 'reproductions' off ebay?

They're half the price but are they half the quality? Chinese reproductions on other products I've had in the past have been a bit hit and miss in my experience, I've had some good and some bad items. Just wondering whether to be take a punt.

I've seen 'Touratech' headlight and radiator guards and 'Wunderlich' reservoir guards. Anything else?

Personally i'd steer clear but at the end of the day it's your money:)

I travel China buying parts & machinery, 95% is utter Sh**e. only the 'Apple' style blue chip companies have any level of quality control. good steel is impossible to buy for manufacture even if they wanted it, due to the ammount of recycled (variable) crap they put into their steels. stay well away would be my advice / experience

I know from experience the material quality is considerably less than used in the Western World, even when it has certificates stating its standard.

In China you get fake, occasionally good usually not.

Best thing is the food, otherwise steer well clear is my opinion.

But a lot of stuff is made in China. Components or somewhere down the line there's usually some part or bit made in China. JJH

Yip But the stuff made for brand owners have undergone numerous inspection and quality steps, the other stuff may or may not have. Sometimes you are lucky sometimes you are not

They made me laugh when at one meal they asked if we would like beef, to which we said yes, it was tougher than old boots and they laughed and said we never eat it try this, we did, it was great, then they told us it was Donkey ! I have never told the children.

Some of the live food is a tad off putting

Aren't some BMW bits made in China?

See post 9,some Bosch parts for fuel injection are made in Israel for example, inspection and standards are the same as in a German factory.

The same?

In my experience, European production has for example one in 50 QA but similar production facilities in China its 1 in 10 or higher.

I have a lot of respect for Chinese and especially Taiwanese manufacturing for certain applications - BUT you have to know what you are buying and what checks have been done and by who.

Thing is these are not reproductions they are unlicensed rip offs , western companies have no recourse via the Chinese courts system re this practice for example the copy BMW X5 or the rip off copy Land Rover Evoque copy.
Some of the Chinese stuff may be of reasonable quality BUT there is other stuff for example copy Bosch MAF sensors in what appear to be Bosch packaging but will never work as they were casings containing no actual electronic components or even worse the apparently genuine Garrett Turbos appearing from China made of poor quality metals and self destructing within weeks.
