Has anyone been able to get their Zegas anodised? I bought mine before I heard about all the alternatives and want to protect them as much as possible plus I'd prefer something darker in colour.

If so;

1, Do the locks/latches have to be removed?

2, Ditto the seal and if so does it come away easily?

3, How robust is the finish?

Looking through this site I wish now I'd explored the alternatives before but I can't afford to ditch the Zegas!:(

OO that's interesting......

Just talking bollix as usual, but i'd imagine that....

1.Yes.......otherwise the deposits will clog up the mechanisms.......

2.No idea, but it'd probably be knackered by the chemicals so I'd imagine you'd certainly have to remove it....

3. Anodised finishes are as good as the anodiser.......but if it's good, it's very tough and should do the job nicely.

But as I said, i've no idea really.........

Cheers!

Do you have an ashtray on your bike too?:D

Don't know about anodising (that would be really expensive wouldn't it?) but Uncle Albert covered his in some sticky stuff (I think) and they looked pretty cool, check this:

Maybe you should PM him if you're interested to know how he did it.

You'll find the knowledge on how to do this in any Blue Peter Annual from a vintage of '58-'74 :nod

1. Yes, anything that is not aluminium needs to come off. The chemicals will eat up other materials.

2. Ditto. No idea whether it comes out easily. I'm pretty sure you'll destroy it. I'd check with Touratech and order new seals before you take them out.

3. The finish is pretty tough. It gets harder and thus more scratch resistant.

I thought about doing this for a little while, when I got my Zegas, but never did it. I'm glad I didn't now really. The grow on you, give it some time ;)

You can alter the looks a bit by using all kinds of stickers...

And if they get damaged, you can easily bang out dents and straighten them, without too much remaining traces. Don't ask how I know. If they are anodized, I'm sure it will show more.

Cheers,
Michel

anodising works best on ally that has had the outer "skin" machined off.

a bit tricky on a set of panniers :(

Thanks everyone!

Lots of good advice as usual and thanks for pointing me in the direction of Uncle Albert. I have sent him a PM as suggested. I think his panels would do the trick (if I can source enough suitably tough sticky-back plastic after the latest Blue Peter season!).

Thanks again!

yes. Not anodised. Intention use them, crash them, hit them with camping mallet, then add stickers accordingly.
