Just in case anyone is heading that way over the next 2 weekends -

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW ROUNDABOUT ON A82 APPROXIMATELY 500M WEST OF BARLOAN TOLL

Significant traffic disruption is expected on the A82, by Dumbarton, next to the Barloan Toll, between 09.30am on Friday 7 March 2008 until 06.00am on Monday 10 March 2008. Traffic will be contra flowed in single lanes on the north carriageway to allow construction of the southern section of the new Lomondgate roundabout.

It is anticipated that delays of up to two hours can be expected during the evening rush hour and motorists are advised to seek other routes / modes of transport or stagger their normal peak hour travel to avoid this delay. Motorists who seek an alternative route should be aware that considerable delays can also be expected in Dumbarton town itself.

The northern section of the Lomondgate roundabout will be constructed from 09.30am on Friday 14 March 2008 until 06.00am on Monday 17 March 2008 and similar delays can be expected.

A temporary reduced speed limit of 30mph will be in force during the works for the safety of motorists and roadworkers.

Lomondgate is a new mixed-use development comprising of housing, business space and mixed commercial accommodation. The development is being spearheaded by Walker Group and Strathleven Regeneration Company, a non profit-making organisation set up in 1999 by Scottish Enterprise Dunbartonshire and West Dunbartonshire Council.

and another big one on the M74

A £4m project to rebuild a stretch of the northbound M74 motorway in Lanarkshire starts Friday 7 March. Works are located between junction 5 (Raith Interchange) and junction 4 (Maryville / M73) and road users are warned that delays are predicted in this area throughout the seven-week project.

Willie Watson, Amey's unit manager for trunk routes in south west Scotland said:

"Traffic restrictions will come into force during the weekend, starting on Friday evening. The first commuter day of any project like this is historically the worst for delays so we’re appealing to drivers to think carefully about their travel plans before they set off for work on Monday morning."

During the seven-week scheme almost 4km of the northbound carriageway will be tackled. Designed and delivered by Amey on behalf of Transport Scotland, lane one will be rebuilt while lanes two and three are reinforced. Two kilometres of the southbound hardshoulder will be reconstructed also.

While having possession of the network the opportunity will be taken to deliver almost £500,000 of bridge repairs. Three bridges within the extents of the scheme (Bothwell Haugh North, Bellshill Road and Uddingston Junction Rail Bridge) will be waterproofed, have bridge expansion joints replaced and some parapet strengthening work undertaken.

The northbound carriageway last underwent significant maintenance and repair works nearly 20 years ago. The southbound carriageway was rebuilt in 2005.

Working on high-speed roads is challenging therefore for everyone's safety the speed limit through the site will reduce from 70mph to 50mph.

Amey urge drivers to take a 'Cone Sense, Common Sense' approach to roadworks:

- Keep to the speed limit, it has been implemented for not just your safety but the workforce’s too – speeding vehicles are a serious threat to staff

- Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks

- Be alert for roadworks traffic and personnel leaving or entering the safety managed roadworks site

- Keep a safe distance – there could be queues in front

- Observe all signs – they are there to help you

- Get into the correct lane in good time – don’t keep switching

Blimey - I thought it was just Aberdeen. The council have got Aberdeen cut off with military precision akin to the seige of Stalingrad. Every road going in is being dug up and half the worlds population of temporary lights and cones are laid out all over the show.... I recon they are goinf to blow the budget by Easter and do swett FA the rest of the year............

It's about time the councils actaully got round to roads maintenance. A lot of the works aroudn ediburgh are either tram related premilinary works (moving underground services) or, in thecase of the A8 near the airport, creation of a cycleway and closure of central reservation gaps. Riding or driving in Edinburgh is just plain nasty due to the abundance of poor quality road surfaces and liberal helpings of dropped manholes & drains, and also poor quality road reinstatement. Just had to repalce suspension joints in the car @ 60K miles due to this.

A number of Border's roads were 'resurfaced' last year using the cheap & nasty spray/chip method. Ride outs this winter have indicated lots of gravel in bends where weather & frost have detached chips from the tar. Whole sections of road are again in poor shape due to this false economy.

Nobody appears to be fixing potholes, properly replacing worn carriageway or attending to the general road wear and tear with anything like the £'s required. An odd patch here and there and an occasional bit of resurfacing. Nice to see there is plenty of public money for tram ways, guided bus ways, traffic calming measures, (needless) bollards, & painting green bus lanes etc that nobody really needs.

Using up any monies that they have left before the end of their financial year, which is only a few weeks away. If thy have money left, it will affect the budget for the next year.
Send, spend, spend. Doesn’t matter if its done well or in the right place just as long as they have spent this years budget.

Probably the wife's cousins mothers sisters next door neighbours granny wanted something done and that gets him laid. :nenau
Took me an hour n a bit to go 4 miles here yesterday. I'm not good with traffic jams.
