A big thank you to Steve R for organising and leading the trail ride around the Peaks on the 27th Nov.
We met at the ‘trail riders’ café in Hope, Steve R on his Basic, Simon (Sorebums) on his long travelled 100GS, Casey on an XR650, Lee on his (t)rusty KLR 250 and myself on my Adv.
A gaggle of 1200s turned up but couldn’t be persuaded to join us!
We rode a good selection of ‘full blast’ tracks, technical climbs, slippery grass tracks and the tarmac between was traffic free. Fish and chips in Matlock Bath for lunch. A days riding doesn’t get much better really!
We had no tumbles, but a few sticky moments (and Lee has now learnt not to push standing directly behind a struggling GS). As always the GSs put up a sterling effort in the company of more ‘suitable’ machinery.
Casey and Simon attempted a section from the Edinburgh Trial and both eventually succeeded! (it was the only time Simon was warm all day).
I’m sure Steve could post the route we did (we moved out of ‘my area’ after the first trail!). But it was great to revisit some old trails I hadn’t ridden for over 20 years.
So thanks again Steve. Over to ‘my area’ next time, eh?
Hopefully we’ll try to make this a more regular off road meet. There are plenty of trails for beginners in the Peaks - all GS owners should be aware of their bikes capabilities!

Anyway, I'm off to clean the bike - it must weigh an extra 20kgs!

woodbine cafe

Glad you had a good day in the Peaks - the 1200's and 1150's that you met at the cafe stayed on the tarmac for the day - we still managed to get mucky though, before ending up at the Old Smithy in Monayash.
I always enjoy riding at this time of year as a lot the plastic rockets are beded down for the winter and the road surfaces are 'interesting' and keep the concentration levels up.

See you again through the winter

Sherpa;)

Steve

I'd like to add my thanks to you for a superb day out. Great fun, with a good mixture of scenery and challenging tracks. It's a long time since I've ridden anything quite as slippery as Bamford Clough, and had to keep going because of the sound of a pinking 1150 right up my tail.

I managed to get home without the clutch cable completely giving out, and with 250kms for the day, I did have a sorebums by the time I finished.

Top Day!!

If you could drop a copy of your photos to me at:

sorebums at yahoo.co.uk

I'll send them round to the lads and see if I can get them posted on this site.

Cheers Lads,

A great day out and definitely we were lucky with the weather. Today it's freezing and pouring with rain, so bad I can't wash the bike so I've left it out to let nature do the job. Some of the pictures are a bit blurry due to the poor light but I'll email some soon.

Steve.

Plenty of life left in that!

Maybe the charge up Bamford Clough after feeling the cable going was a bit bold!
