Trail Wing Rear, Battle Wing Front

My rear was fairly squared of after about 7000 miles so called my usual dealer and asked for a new TW for the rear. When I called in to get it fitted (the front has loads left) there was a Trail Wing waiting for me. Looked like a good tyre and I trust the guy so I got it fitted. Looks like more of an off road tyre than the BW.

Am I asking for trouble mixing these two ?

Matt.

IMO Trailwings are crap, sorry.

Its a very different tyre from the Battlewing and nowhere near as good.

Shep:eek:

Horses for courses. Being on very different bike, but to explain tyer. I ride on BT45's, most of my friends ride on bt15's. More explaination is that 45s are for touring/sport, 15's are for sports/short trips. The first being more important. My 45 front is ready to replace after 50,000km, the rear 35,000km. 15's 10,000 for front, 5,000 rear with hard riding, and that is what they are ment for.

I think battle wings are the newer tyre.

I originally had Trails Wings on my 1200 and changed them for Battle Wings. The Battle Wings were a big improvement, especially in the wet.

I have Tourance EXPs on the moment but would go back to the Battle Wings when they wear out.

I had a test ride recently on a 08 1200 which had OEM Battle Wings. I don't know whether it was the bike or the tyres but it turned in really nice

Battlewings are based on the 020 carcass design, the 020 was always a good handling road tyre and with the slight off road tread pattern and deeper tread of the BW's they end up rather a good tyre for general use on a 12GS.

Trailwings are scarey in the wet and not that much better in the dry.

Like the man says :thumb2 - I'd be straight back to the fitter and asking for the TW to be swapped for a BW.

Trail Wings aren't known as Death Wings for nothing..........................

Looked like a good tyre .....

They all look like that sir.

I have never used a trailwing but if you take it steady at first and get to know their 'feel' I'm sure that you wont have a problem. If the boundries are to low, get it changed and put it down to experience. I'd be surprised if any tyre is dangerous these days. Some here plod about on TKC knoblies for christ sake.

Trailwings.........deathwings is right, dont do it, different bike i know but had them on my Vstrom and lethal in wet!!!

Had Trailwings on my 1200 when I first got it, no problems they were OK, then fitted Battlewings, in the dry :thumb2 but in the wet the bike felt twitchy, so it made me a little on the twitchy side  just collected my GSA today and it had Conti Trail Attacks fitted, straight out of the box onto very wet Manchester roads and they felt excellent, I could not believe the feel from new, just hope they stay like that :D

Used Both!
It's all in your head
How do you ride your GS... GP racer..no.. well you wll not notice the difference.
I have had the same mix due to a flat in Germany and did not notice a difference during the return trip of 900 mls.
All this tyre stuff in is your head! not how the bike handles! :augie
Guess this post will bring out all the racers.
A~
