Trailer travel in Spain

I’ve Googled this and done a search of this site, but can’t find an answer. Due to time constraints we’re taking six bikes down to Southern Spain in a box trailer and flying down to meet it and a few more riders. Normally when we all ride abroad we take V5/MOT/Insurance docs. My question is, do we keep the documents with the bikes, safe in the cab of the towing vehicle or would copies suffice and we bring the originals with us when we travel.

V5 must be with the bike, both leaving UK and arrival in Europe mainland you may be asked for the docs. I've been asked several times.
I guess it's a plus really as it shows the authoriyies are looking for stolen machines......
