Trans America Trail

Just starting to plan a Trans US trip for 2008. Basic route will be East West on the TransAmerica off road trail then on up to Alaska.

Couple of questions:

Anyone done the Transam trail and is it all OK an 1200 GS-A?

Best time of year? (I`m guessing start in June and allow 12 weeks)

I`ve done Trans US on pavement but really fancy this. Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

This past weekend I saw Michael Murray of Motorrad Media give a talk about his experiences making a documentary of crossing the Trail. He felt his F650GS was the "heavy" bike. The other two bikes were an XR650L and a DRZ400.

Will be taking my old 1100GS for a run out. As it was a US import, it will be like going home!!
