Hi ,,,
Am I loosing the plot ?
In mapsource to send an area (Tile) from the PC to the unit (660 Zumo) you selected the tiles and clicked - send to device. It wont work now, saying that there is not enough room. But before It would delete all map tiles and reinstall what id selected. :nenau
So, then I read a thread on here that mapsource is going to be binned and have to use Basecamp. So how do you do it on basecamp ?

With my Quest, I had to transfer specific maps to the unit depending on the route I was taking (up to the maximum memory available....256MB, I think) in the manner you have described. With the 660 I have never done this: it has enough memory to hold all the maps in e.g. City Navigator Europe 2012.40. You do, of course, have to update the maps both on Mapsource and the unit (part of he Map update process, not a routine PC-unit transfer). Just transfer waypoints and routes and away you go.

The "full" maps did fit, I had been deleting Unnecessary files like voice and help to make sure they fit. But no longer do (2013.10)
So, when updating new maps from now on, you have to select the map files you prefer. So, I chose "western Europe" which upload with no problems leaving 552MB of spare space on the 660.
However, What if I need to go to the Ukraine ? So, I would like to know how to select my choice of map tiles and upload them to the 660.

I see...sorry, can't help. I thought I had the latest European maps at 2012.40 (which all fit on my 660).

The new mapset was released yesterday.
Indecently, The full mapset has downloaded onto basecamp on my PC, just not on the 660. You have to make a choice from a list of what you want to load onto your unit.
There must be a way to simply choose the map tiles you want and send to unit. :nenau

There's 2 places maps go. The updater installs these two:-

gmapprom.img
GMAP3D.IMG

Map installer writes the GMASUPP.IMG file. This is intended for any additional maps you'd like to add. If you've been used to old-fangled technology and using Map Install to move things from your mac to the 660 (like I was) then you'll have stolen internal space that the updater wants.

The way forward is to move the GMASUPP.img to the sd card, where it'll still get found, and then re-run the update. Remember to specify to download to device and mac if you want to make routes on the mac.

As a complete aside to the above...
I just noticed after doing this update and putting the device on today, it is still copying back from the unit, and I have 2 copies now in a personal and system library. (Garmin SQA!)

Yes I did read this as it unfolded at the time, although I thought it was more to do with Mac than Windows....
Reading through it again now .... Thanks:thumb

Glad there's an answer. I'm setting off for Eastern Europe a week on Friday...think I'll stick with 2012 maps....one less thing to worry about. Lucky escape...normally I end up updating maps in the early hours of the morning before departure...that would have been fun.

Never do that; you just know something's going to go wrong and you may end up with no maps.

Personally I would update maps a week before going. If it goes tits-up, you've got some time to try and sort it.

The new mapset was released yesterday.

The unlocked "dodgy" (put on a sd card and it works on any garmin) version came out on the 2nd may. I also have the mapsource version and had no issues transfering W.Europe. it wont take the full mapping on internal memory though.
