my 95 1100gs has recently developed a slight problem. Select third gear..open throttle...accelerate....kerlunk.

Only occurs in third and feels like the whole transmission slips ?

Any offers ?

I experienced similar problems with slick changes under harder acceleration.

Try an oil change in the gearbox for a fully synthetic. It seems to have stopped this from happening so far. Look for a GL5 rated SAE 80/90

Phill do you do clutchless changes, at all? If you do then there is a chance that you may have bent the selecter fork. This is a bit of a known problem for pre- 09-1996 bikes. (think that's the time)

BMW changed the selector mechanisn after that date and prior to that if one did the clutchless changes on a regular basis then what you are describing is what could happen.

I personally have seen two friends do the damage I've described. In one case the fellow replaced his whole gearbox with the later one for about $300.00 more than fixing the stuffed box up.

I did indeed neglect the clutch on changing up for quite a while, after aquiring the gs. I came from a long line of Jap multis and clutchless changes are the norm. A friend mentioned the selector mechanism so maybe this is where to begin.

I may try the oil change City Slicker, got to be worth a bash eh ?
