Hi guys i'm currently in Montana on a four month trip up to Alaska and the 1200 has stated to struggle to start in the mornings over the past three days. I need to hold the throttle on and keep the start button pressed to get it to start. I have been at 5000 to 8000 feet over the last week, so i don't know if it is altitude. Once the bike starts in the morning its fine for the rest of the day, its just the first start of the day?

The bike had a service 5000 miles ago( 1 month) I have put premium fuel in. I dont want it to get worse while i'm passing through Canada/ Alaska.. Any ideas?

Problems

I am also in the U.S. for six months and also having problems with my GS. I dropped the bike three days ago and with bad luck broke the plug on the right side of the engine that controls the throttle. BMW here in Memphis got a new one and replaced this for me. I got abot 100 miles and after washing the bike and a refuel the bike starts but not rev and stops . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Pigsick give the BMW Memphis a call back and ask for Tim Adiar he was realy helpful when we passed through.. If it happend after you washed it ? sounds like a loose connectionwater egress, i presume you have checked all plugs and tried a little wd40, ?? good luck

Shouldn't think it is anything to worry about unduly. Mine did the same for a short spell after cold nights and when at altitude...

I also noted that Kevin Sanders' bike did the same when he was in the Mountains of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan from his London to Beijing dvd...

If you want to have it checked, there is a brilliant BMW Dealer in Missoula that I used for a service and tyre swap during my ride last year...

Enjoy the ride...

How's your battery? Has it been really cold and wet at night?

Dear Jonny
Thanks for the advise i will bring the bike back to Memphis on Tuesday as Monday is a holiday. I think the problem is comming from the part i broke and they replaced. We are riding the Trans American Trail and will also head up to Alaska and then return to Miami before the end of October. Maybe we will see you along the way.

cheers

Hi guys the battery was my first choice, maybe even change te top spark plugs ( Rudiemoto Suggest). Currently in Massoula waiting for the Memorial day break to finish to get a new batt. Its done 50k so will need a new one soon.

Pigsick: we will be hitting Canada in a few days and in Alaska around July. TAT: sounds great, harsh on a gsa, the weather playing games too... Still a lot of snow in Wyoming/ Montana. Good travels, we may bump into each other in Alaska..
