Trip Computer MPG Accuracy

I've just got back from a 400 mile round trip to Devon, fully loaded with pillion and luggage and I thought I'd work out the mpg. The trip computer said 51mpg but the actual consumption worked out at 57mpg. Has anyone else noticed such a discrepancy? Is that something the dealer can recalibrate? I'm very impressed with the figures though :)
 
An accuracy of about 90% is good enough.

The difference is not life threatening or indeed life changing on your jaunts to Tesco.

Still worried? Take another look when you've done 20,000 miles.

I don't and the last time I had a wee hoon with an HP4 and a couple of K1300S hanging onto my coat tails, the 'puter still showed 49 mpg. My son's just back from 3,500 miles around Holland, Germany, Switzerland and France on his. He said he was down to 50 - 60 mph at times in Switzerland and the recorded average on 100 RON was 80 mpg at that pace.

There were a few fairy miles riding on Dartmoor, but we were on holiday so what was the rush ;) Otherwise, the pace was quite fast. Most trip computers I've had have been fairly accurate, I'll ask the dealer if they can improve it, but no big deal if not.
 
In warm weather I get typically 56/57 mpg in cold weather it drops to around 52/53 - this is across a range of roads and speeds.
I nearly always use posh petrol 97/98/99 octane (just because I can). I recon my mpg meter reads be 5% high max.

my bike is a March 2013 with just over 16000 miles.

Who gives a fuck about fuel consumption. Just ride it like you stole it and fill up when empty:aidan
 
Of course you have to ask yourself how accurate your own measurements were. How did you ensure you started and ended with the same amount of fuel? How did you measure the miles travelled? What's the tolerance on your calculations?

Or better still, isn't this thread a bit anally retentive?
