Hi, me and some friends are going down to Aragon Spain at the end of sept to watch moto gp we are riding down then coming back by ferry from Bilbao to portsmouth just wondering if anyone's been there before know of any good hotels and any good tips for the journey down thanks.

I'm planning to drive across from Madrid for the same event.

Would be interested in knowing where your staying in Aragon:thumb2

There are not heaps of hotels close by - the ones that are close seem to be rammed full of French and Spanish. The place is a dustbowl if its windy but parking and access are fairly good - most people park on the roadside to get a quick exit but be prepared for a bit of a scramble!

We stayed over to the East closer to Tarragona - but expect the hotels to be winding down at this time of year - also alot of the restaraunts are done for the season too. However Pamplona and Madrid are close enough to ride to the race if only going on race day - if you are making a weekend of it you will need to be closer to Zaragoza. Loads of people just pitch a tent in the parking areas - the place is like a desert though.

If I was doing it again I would head for one of the big cities and prefer to ride for 2 hours to get in to the track.

Watch out for the police on your way to the track - they are not looking to spoil your fun but are quite interested in speeding - often radar on way to track. Also another tip is get fuel way before you get close to the track it is a long que at any garage near the track and you will be looking at an hour or so waiting in the ques.

North of the circuit is a bit flat and arid until you have got past Pamplona but if its roads you want head South/East some fantastic roads in that area and if you stick close to the Ebro river you will pretty much always see some sivilisation and it is a little more green and mountainous.

I concur that there are no hotels in the area.

I stayed in a town called Tortosa as near a place for hotels as you will get and that was an hour or so away.

I actually found the circuit looks better on the TV that the reality but then that applies to a lot of circuits.

If it's of any use to you, my apartment is a still available for the MOTOGP week at Jerez. I'ts a fantastic 2.5 hour ride via the famouse Ronda road! Please check out www.rondariders.co.uk if you require any further info. Thanks for reading this reply.

Thanks for the info ricktus, was hoping there would be a bit more going on in the area, we have the option of going to the San Marino gp as well might see what I can find out about that trip instead as I haven't done that one either.

I haven't been to the GP, but a few years ago I stayed in Tortosa for a few nights, using it as a base for riding. There are some truly amazing roads in the area.

Looks like a couple of nights in Zaragoza is the easiest option.

Only about an hour and a a half from the track.

Jerez GP looks tempting as well.

Hi Paul. We've done Jerez 4 times. A great weekend if you can make it.

Hi Ian,

Couple of nights in Seville then Jerez sounds good to me :thumb2

Me too. Actually four of us. Not sure yet if it's ferry one way or not at all.

Got it sorted now staying at alcaniz, hotel was booked through mci tours even though there not doing the trip they sorted all the overnight stays with secure parking and transfers to the track which I prefer not to take the bike, also race tickets which are for practice, qualifying and race day,b+b and half board we are riding down and ferry back from Bilbao happy days can't wait.

Getting a transfer to the track isnt as daft as it sounds....I think I did 3 laps of Alcaniz town before I eventually got to the track....equally I spent 20 minutes travelling in the wrong direction on the way out because of local diversions etc!
Enjoy
