Not used the bike much in the last year what with new baby anyway my mate and I decided to do our usual weekend trip up to the west of Scotland, this year we headed over to Islay to look at the distilleries.

The first night we stayed in Carradale, Kintyre http://ifferdalefarm.co.uk a great hostel down a single track old military road, new conversion and cracking food if you decide to take up the offer of the owners farm reared lamb. Will be going back with family!

Up early on the Cal Mac to Islay (& local ferry to Jura) where we had a couple of nights staying in the Youth Hostel in Port Charlotte. Would recommend a visit to Islay like most of Scotland great food, drink, music and freindly type.

Lovely place that church, stunning scenery.

Was going to pm you the other day to ask where that photo of your t4 was taken you posted in the campervan section, you must be able to read minds.

Ha .... indeed :thumb2

There was a camp site up at Port Charlotte but when I went back with my missis in a plastic jar (all sounds pretty un respectful but it really isn't ... Bonnie would be smiling, nay, laughing) the campsite had gone. I asked the guy at the small garage who told me it was perfectly OK to take the camper on the the playing field opposite, and stay a couple of nights. No one would mind. Far end of the playing field was a track down to the sea shore where you see the Trooper. One small parking spot, one table ..... five star luxury :D

Islay is on the list to do. Nice bikes too.

Only 46 quid return bike and one person. Port Charlotte yh great; nice couple running it. You could also camp where Micky say as its now a campsite or free camp on beach near Bruichladdich distillery.

Powder coated the rear subframe on my 1100 before I went looks great now. Especially since I got rid of all the bling:) and stripped it back to original bike.

Best way - de bling is my winter project too, saves a load of weight

I remember my 1996 11 GS that I bought new - 4 years & 40k, all bog standard with system panniers

Ahhhhhh Lagavulin :ChrisKelly

One of my all time favourites !! Looks a nice trip ... :thumb2

Islay jura magic islands

1978 It was a magic summer back then the raised beaches caves walks up the paps then most magical for me as we canoed back up the east coast of Jura was calling in at Barnhill where George Orwell wrote some of his books. The owner then made us very welcome. Unlike some of the white settlers we came across wild camping.
