PCGuard anti virus has reported that it has found a trojan on my system. I did a full scan and 3 infected files were deleted. Did another manual scan the next and 6 more were found .

Can anyone recomend a good (free???) utility/product that can remove infected files.

BTW shouldn't my constantly updated antivirus software have protected my system from such infections?

Thanks :thumb

I've often found when your current AV software finds a virus, it's good to download a different copy of a AV software and run a full scan again it's amazing what extra is found.

I have always found Avast and microsofts own 'defender' programme pretty good both are free

regarding the trojan if the AV has identified what trojan you have do a google search to find how best to remove it, there is good on-line guides if your not to comfortable messing about with the PC

You could also try Malwarebytes and Trend Micro's online scanner. If it keeps returning you'll need to run your A/V after you've turned off system restore and rebooted. Once done re-enable sytem restore, reboot and run A/V again to make sure it's gone.

I have just done a scan and 4 more copies were found, all in the system restore directories so turning off system restore makes sense.

Thanks for all the replies. Spybot is now running and I will be followed by adaware. I will be downloading and running the other suggestions later. Can't do any harm methinks and one of them may resolve the problem for good.

Thanks again all :thumb2
