trouble getting a canbus socket from dealers...

i think they are taking the piss with prices £41.50 ( €42 on the de site) plus post for a cable you already have and just need to add a socket on to it.

Therein lies the problem with most of life.

You can't (or couldn't) get the simple plug you needed.

Had you of got one yourself (as opposed to sorced by Stumpy) then the cost would have been indeed about £10, plus postage to Switzerland, plus whatever the cost was to join in neatly to your 'free' Garmin lead. Of course the Garmin lead wasn't 'free' at all, it was some part of the £350+ you spent buying the navigation device.

TT though DO have the socket. The only problem is that it's pre-made into a tidy lead, that plugs into the GPS device. It's up to them how much they charge punters for it....if £40 is what the market will stand then they will sell....If TT sold just the socket (but they don't) then the cost may well have been a lot lower.

yep understand what your saying and agree..... i had ordered a canbus socket from from Clarks as i was in the UK last week, but as appears they couldnt organise a piss up in a brewery when it comes to mail order parts
( fecking useless to be polite) i was left with 1 day before i flew out of UK. Stumpy put me in touch with his local dealer and very very kindly offered to collect it and post it out to me :bow

it just seemed a bit pointless buying the TT lead as u already have one in the kit.

Order one from BuMW in Switzerland? It's a car part and I see plenty of expensive BuMW cars cruising the streets of Zurich.....

That reads a bit funny to me esp

Just like to point out I didn't add anything to the price. Rob paid the dealer by card (£11.99 i think). I just stuck it in an envelope and posted it:thumb2

Stumpy

and now the most ironic thing is a small packet arrived in the UK from clarks ( so i am told) only 10 days after it was ordered so now i have 2 canbus plugs........

And also a vey big thanks to Stumpy once again for his kind offer.

Hi Swissrob,

http://www.rnli.org.uk/how_to_support_us

ill donate the money to them in the end anyway.

PM me ur details and it should be able to go in the post tomorrow.

please please dont take this the wrong way but could you post up proof of the donation after? I only say this as i have had in the past ( not on here tho) some scum bags take the piss and said they donated but infact didnt
:spitfire:spitfire .

no offence intended of course.

if you are trying to power a GPS/etc from the accessories socket at the front left of the bike, you can do it by simply tinning the wire, drilling a hole through the dust can and feeding them through

see here

I did this about 2 years back and havent had any problems at all with it as a solution...

who wants to pay £50 if you can do something as neat and simple as this?

I need one. Have just stock-checked the part with my local dealer and he advised "Nil stock in the UK or Germany."

Update : Scratch that, Touratech now manufacture a fully prepared lead, sorted!

RNLI donation made.

HI Swissrob,

Donation made .. See screen print below :thumb2
